Mille Fleur Cochin project, F1 update pix

Stop you? I was hoping YOU could tell me why, oh WHY I bought a pair of splash ameraucanas last week. What the heck was I thinking!!!??? The are from show stock, and the gal selling them thinks it is two roos, but one has hackle feathers and a longer, hawklike bill, and one has a softer expression on her face and rounded saddle feathers. Pair, SCORE!!!, but did I HAVE to be the score-er???

Resistance is futile.

Where's that Borg smiley when I need it?

Ahhh, here's one:

Soooo, you guys are NOT going to stop me??? Ha Ha Ha!!

Fine, when I get home I'm going to have to kick the non-cochin birds out of the arrangement and start makin' us some of these Mille Fleur cochins....

Unless you think Silver Phoenix and Blue Silkies would mix well with cute cochins??

I love the Mille Fleur Cochins! I cannot resist!

I don't know what has gotten in to mine, It has been cold and snowy for last month and they are still laying up a storm. We just got like a foot of snow this weekend. Crazy.

We havent had but just a dusting of snow but have had some pretty good cold But not a lot All the rest of the time 50's and 60's But high 20's and 30's at night with an occasional teen They are on strike Think I will turn them into borgs

Except for a couple of VERY cold nights, most of mine have been laying all through the winter. My cochins are inside, so they don't really count -- but the outdoor birds have been laying as well. I feed hot mash nearly every day (a commercial corn based mashed, +oats +alfalfa or calf manna + whatever I feel like throwing in) in addition to starter/grower crumbles. I never feed layer feed. I also cheat on the outside coop by having a heat lamp on 24/7, but no white light. I unplugged the heat lamp the beginning of this week, and it hasn't slowed em down any yet.

My problem is that nothing is HATCHING. I can hatch eggs from other people just fine, but my own eggs aren't even developing. I'm about to tear my hair out.

Doc, I seem to be having the same thing happening lately???? I just candled almost 20 eggs on day 7 to see what was developing and none of my Millies were fertile. I think my Roosters must have forgotten how to do their thing. I’m a little leery about the 30 I set yesterday so I went right out and made sure that I had all my breeders vents trimmed up for the next go around in a week or so.

I’ve also been using two “infrared” heat lamps at night in my outside pens all winter, mostly to keep their waters from freezing solid. I’m probably going to stop that in the next few weeks.

did anyone check the boys and girls to see if their bottoms needed a trim?
i already had to trim my birds around the bottom , including the silkies.
as cold as it got here they musta put a little extra on for a nice warm bottom! doesn't make for good contact though, i guess that's chicken birth control for ya!
