Crazy weather here in Wa right? Have not felt cold like that here for 8 years, and we still ahve 3 months to go! Have your birds been shivering?
That is so sad, a hair dryer, really? I opened my window and it froze open! Had to use a hair dryer to thaw it, and close it!
I like your BYC page amazing pic's!
Thanks!
It is sad when people get desperate and take dangerous means to keep their houses warm. Every year there is a family or two, often immigrants, who try to heat their houses with coals inside as they would in a more ventilated living establishment back "home" when the electricity goes out.
Two years ago we had that snow storm which was about this cold with 8 inches of snow outside. We did this:
Nobody was heated and the birds spent the days puffed up but did just fine. Everyone except my oldest (5+ years) and youngest (under 6 months) slept outside in the run of the tractors. The rest went into uninsulated plywood hutches to spend the nights. No frost bite and everyone survived. Just brought out warm drinking water twice a day.
That girl with a frozen head two years ago is outside this year but learned not to dip her head into the water bucket.
When I was in elementary school back in the 90's, we got a few inches of snow 2-3 times a winter, and usually one deep snow of 6+ inches a year. The last 15 years have been much warmer.

Love the pics! Your flock is beautiful!! Looks like you guys truly embraced the snow! I live near the steepest hill in Oly so 2 years ago we had our own personal snowboarding park, It was great! If you learn to love the snow, winter is a breeze. Weather the earth is heating or cooling who knows, but one thing is for sure it is not very consistent! Have a Happy Turkey Day!
