Hi all, these are my 7 week old silkies - both the same age. The small one on the left hatched from a tiny egg labeled as "mini bantam", has anyone else came across this before? Is it just a mini egg or an actual breed? I assume its a mini silkie bantam. Its adorable!! Also I assume the left one is a female, any suggestions would be great.

The one on the right looks a lot older than 7 weeks. I would say at least 4 months of age. The one on the left (smaller one), looks like a regular 7 week old.
A bantam is already a small chicken. I have never heard of a mini bantam. It would be like calling something a "mini mini".
Full grown female silkies usually weigh between 1 and a half to 2 lbs, males around 2 and half to 3 lbs.
If these birds are truly 7 weeks old, it is too early to tell gender.😊

Edited for spelling errors

Thanks for your reply. I'd say the right chicken looks so big because the mini one is so small. My chickens are here in Scotland which is colder, they have had access to a heat lamp and slightly colder during the day so they could have feathered out more a lot quicker, they are genuinely 7 weeks old.

Very interesting 🤔
I would say the one on the right is a pullet.
I have never heard of a “mini bantam” before. The only thing I’d be worried about with a smaller chicken (as in smaller then a bantam) is life expectancy, even then though I don’t know. I will sure be keeping an eye on this thread.
NEVER heard of a mini bantam?
