Minimum number of days to give medastatin

Hi all!

I’ve got a hen with sour crop and we did the 24 hours no food or water and she was still pretty sick. After two doses of Medastatin she seems like 95% better. She’s hard as heck to get meds into so I’m wondering what the minimum duration of treatment. Don’t want to keep stressing her with meds if she doesn’t need them but also don’t want to stop too soon and risk a back slide.

I would treat for a minimum of 7 days. If you cut it short you might not kill off all of the yeast in the digestive tract and it can come back with a vengeance and cause a secondary infection that can kill them.

I would not let her go 24 hours without water. I agree that I would give the Medistatin twice a day for (nystatin) for 5-7 days. Try offering it in a small cup of water when she is thirsty.
