Mink

If I was that close as the last picture ... I would have STOMPED it into a mud hole!

Or tried too! ;)

Of course I don't wear flip flops, but ... steel toed cowboy boots ...

A "weasel box" trap with something like a #50 conibear type trap, or a #0 foot hold trap inside of it should do the trick ...

Make that a 110 or a 120 Conibear trap and float your mink box to exclude by catch like cats, dogs, etc. Mink like to enter and explore tunnels and holes. The mink box uses the mink's own nature against him. There is also a device called a weasel box that works on dry land.

He was pretty big. I have never seen a Fisher, not sure if we have them here. Mink are prolific here as well as marten. Here's another pick of him. He kept coming back after I chased him off so I got a few pics. just edited to say..you could be right..we do have fishers here according to Google! I learned something new today View attachment 1571080
second picture now i can tell its a mink .

i see your from the island nice, really pretty there. (am from SK)

Thanks.. We have a good air rifle. My husband put out a couple of traps out last night. We have two ducks left they're inside till were able to up our security.

I've got a good air rifle too (Beeman R77 if it matters), but out of all the weapons at my disposal, that would be the last one I'd pick up to use on a mink, weasel, skunk, possum or other. At least one that was not in a trap and running around on the loose.

Even a dinky little Mossberg .410 pump shotgun you can buy at Walmart.....which holds 4 or 5 shells and burps out a lethal dose of lead at close quarters. About 5 to 20X the single pellet an air rifle would dispense and at a much higher velocity.

If you can get close enough to that mink to take those kind of photos he is close enough. A dead center body shot with even a .410 will leave him graveyard dead.

I suppose all that is true. But I have city chickens and I'd have to answer lots of questions if I fired off a shotgun in town! as for the photos, never underestimate the power of a zoom lens :D
