Hello fellow Minnesotans...
Newbie here just getting started this spring. Been wanting to do this for a while but this is finally the right year to get started. I have a feeling I'll be spending a lot of time on this site. It's oddly addictive and it's really wonderful to see so many knowledgeable people willing to help out the clueless and overwhelmed.

 After a lot of research I've decided on 5 or 6 Welsummers...but temperment is a big deal for me and so based on what I've read I want to get them from a breeder. Of course I am running into the 25 chick min. order for having them shipped, so right now I am in search of 1 of 2 things. Someone in MN who can sell me a few Welsummer chicks, or someone who wants to split the order with me. I'm looking at Whitmore Farm. Anyone interested PM me.

A couple hours someone pointed me to insideyolk where I could order just 10. So I jumped on it because it seems like order times are getting pushed out fast and it was already looking like may before I'd get them from anywhere. Well turns out I should have excercised a little restraint because 30 mins ago someone on here just pointed me to a thread by minniechickmama who is right here in MN.
I just felt like I had already looked everywhere for something local but I guess my research skills aren't quite what I thought they'd be.

I wonder if there's some way to cancel that order seeing as how I just made it tonight...
I may check.

Welcome Linnea. I believe my Pet Chicken will give you smaller orders too. That of course is just from my limited research as well. I've also seen Craig's List requests to split orders. Craig's list can be quite awesome.

Triplell. I can't get over your ordeal. OMGosh! I wish you all well with your flock. Aoxa who is another big contributer on BYC lost over 100 birds Sunday into Monday morning. Her whole barn a loss I just saw. This darn winter weather this year making us use these heat lamps. It obviously can happen to the best of us.

I'm not sure what I can do given I'm an hour away and a bit short on space for extra birds but...my thoughts are definitely with you and your flock.

Thank you Bogtown, The barn was not a total loss and even if it was we have another morton barn that I would use. I appreciate your offer though. I might lose one or two chickens and that is it. I can't even imagine loosing the whole flock. I truely feel for Aoxa. A friend of mine just lost 5 dairy cows that was prago and their enitre barn.We are all scrambling to help them out with all the springer heifers they have. We are looking to take something close to 25 of them as we have a large leanto that tehy used this summer. This winter is just horrible for us with animals!! In fact Dad and I just came home from the Casino to get smokes and do alittle gambling.

That s what i need to do. Rent a trencher. And then Have electrician hook me up. I think my father in law knows how to wire a building. Maybe ill ask him.
