Minnesota!

I sure would do it if you can. THe wireing was up to code but the porceline socket on the heat lamp malfunctioned and cause the fire according to the fire cheif. We made it in the Brainerd Dispatch, the title is " Animals saved from barn fire". I am gonna plan on a barbacue for the FD when summer comes and I have fresh broilers to fix. I will be buying the broilers and Dad is gonna buy the feed for them to say thank you.

Dad was an electrician in the Air Force so he know's his stuff and will be putting in some more safty features as well. Like some more breakers.

So nice of you to do that for the firemen. That goes a long ways with them. Dh is volunteer fireman. They love that sort. Of thing. Wow. Very nice!

Father in law learned while in the army I'm pretty sure. Ive already had To replace one ext. Cord dh scraped to far into yard with. Snow plow. Its just the next step. Chickening has went well with us. We love it and will keep doing it.

My DH and Dad was very hesitant about it too but I just Love it so. I have alway's been and animal nut. In high school I was the only one that I know of that had a major. Animal science plus I went to night time college for Vet Tech. Only needed 6 months to finish but we moved to MN right after HS. The greatful state of MN would not accept my college credits cause they didn't come from a University. Plus the wages here are terrible for Vet Techs. They are lucky to get just over min wage.

Sounds like a bad time for barn fires, I just heard back from the person who I'd pre-ordered chicks from and apparently they lost their barn and all the livestock from a fire yesterday.

That means I'm looking for a new source for a small assortment of layer chicks. I can only have 3 adults by city ordnance, but would like to start out with a few more babies to allow for losses and cockerels. If anyone knows of a source within an hour or so of the twin cities where I could get an assortment of 2 or 3 of the following breeds as chicks please let me know; black australorps, speckled Sussex, EE, OE, Plymouth/barred rock, or other cold hardy heavy layers.

I'm not picky about show quality or anything, just want some friendly productive hens, ideally producing a variety of egg colors.

Vasjir: Anoka Ramsey Farm & Garden on Hwy 10 in Ramsey, MN have chicks in. They always have a variety. There's also Egg/Plant Urban Supply in St. Paul but I don't think they have chicks until March. Golden Comets will give a lot of brown eggs and the chicks are sex-linked. Very nice chickens. Easter Eggers/Ameraucanas will give blue or green eggs.

Thanks for the info Anirtj, egg/plant supply looks like it carries a perfect assortment. If I don't find a local breeder I will definitely be hitting them up.

Well I went to the New Ulm Poultry swap this morning. I've never been to a swap before, and I had lots of fun talking to the different breeders. I sold the 6 male ducklings that I had brought and I ended up buying 3 beautiful fantail pigeons. I know very little about pigeons, but I asked my questions and the breeder managed to talk me into it. They are gorgeous!

Did anyone go to the swap in Hutchingson?

Hutchinson was huge! Coliseum was packed with both people and birds (probably about 800 people or so). I met people from IN, ND, SD, IA, WI, and of course MN. Loved the Smith Poultry supply booth as always. Sold out on almost everything I brought along. Next ones at Hutchinson are on March 9th and May 11th.
