Minnesota!

Hi, I just joined this forum today so hopefully this is in the right spot.

I am currently hatching out the following:

Ameraucana Chickens, Bantam Cochin Chickens, Bantam Frizzle Chickens, Bantam Phoenix Longtail, Black Copper Maran Chickens, Blue Maran Chickens, Black Rose-Comb Chickens, Guineas, Light Brahma Chickens, Mille Fleur D'uccle Chickens, Olive Egger Chickens, Black, Blue and Splash Orpington Chickens, Showgirl Silkie Chickens, Silkie Chickens.

Chicks for sale along with older chicks and breeding stock in some breeds.

I am located right outside Fargo, ND.

What colors are the bantam cochins and bantam phoenix?

Is the swap in Hutchinson strictly poultry or are rabbits accepted too?
Thanks. I may have both to get rid of.
If anyone is looking or thinking about Buckeyes this year, I have lots of them hatching each week. I am getting a good number of eggs from that pen. I can only sell them as chicks if you want pure Buckeyes though, not hatching eggs.
They are $5 each, but will give discounts on 25+ or to 4-Hers. Not many left that might be old enough for 4-H showing though, sorry.
Also, my Blue Orps are coming on now. They aren't the English ones, but they are lovely.

Rabbits are welcome. They just don't want dogs, cats, or any hooved stock (goats, sheep, pigs) there. If they allow those animals, they have to hire a vet to be on site the entire swap and it gets pretty spendy for the club. I'll be there all morning helping Bruce with admission at the door. I may sneak off a few times to chat with everyone though too. I sold out of all my extra birds at the Game Breeders and only have some baby texel guinea pigs to bring if anything.

I'm also going to add that there is an exotic animal & poultry auction in Jackson MN on March 16th. Google "Jackson Livestock Exchange" to get the full details. MN Pheasant & Waterfowl Society swap is in New Prague on March 23rd too.

I plan to go to the New Prague swap on the 23rd. Does anyone know what kind of papers you need to sell birds? I have a couple roosters and 15 two month chicks that I'd like to sell while I'm there if possible.

Also, does anyone know how I can become NPIP?

To get your MN Hatchery Permit and NPIP certifications go to this website:

As for selling birds...

If you are coming from in-state, you need a current pullorum test and numbered leg or wingband on the bird. Band numbers have to match the paperwork. Anything under 4 months of age (basically not feathered out completely yet) has to have a licensed hatchery permit card or proof that it is from a licensed hatchery. Waterfowl needs the pullorum test for sale purposes, but not exhibition, if staying within the state.

If you are coming in from another state, you have quite a bit more paperwork. On adult birds, you need the pullorum test within 30 days, an import permit, and a current CVI (certificate of vet inspection). On young birds and hatching eggs, you need the import permit and NPIP status. To get the import permit, go to this website: http://www.mn.gov/bah/animals/poultry/files/poultry-import-app.pdf Good luck finding a vet that will issue a CVI for a reasonable price.

*** Turkeys are SPECIAL... In addition to all above, you also have to have blood samples drawn roughly 2 weeks ahead of time and results back to you on a MS/MG test as well.

*** Wild waterfowl (wood ducks, pintails, etc) and other native species need proper DNR permits and transfer paperwork.

I would like to add that the Minnesota Animal Health Program runs a testing class in the Spring, I think in April, for people wanting to get certified to test. I think the cost is about $30 and it is Alexandria. It is good for 3 years. To get your NPIP, you first must test your entire flock of breeders, then get an inspection done by a State Vet. Once you have been certified as a hatchery, you can stay current year after year by sending debris samples in six time per year rather than re-testing. The testing I am referring to is the Rapid Whole Blood Test.

Thanks for putting up your info, destiny!

Is there a swap in May in New Ulm? Or Hutchinson?

Thanks guys!

I saw a testing class offered March 22nd in St. Cloud, but you must be 18. I'm a college student and I'm very responsible, but I'm only 16 so I don't qualify. Does anyone know where I can find someone to do the testing? Also, do you have any recommendations for which number bands to use? Nearly all of my birds are feather footed.

And I believe that the Hutchinson swap is May 11th and the New Ulm swap is May 18th.
