Minnesota!

OK here is how my day went yesterday.... I went to let the girls out of the coop and i always say Pooper Pack,,,Pooper Pack,,just to give them a heads up Mommas coming so we can start our day and they wont be startled by the door.. ANYWAYS as i said that i hear this loud restyling inside the coop and i thought Holy Sh$t whats in there,,the girls are chirping away and i was scared to open the door but knew i had to.. so i cracked it open a little and there was some guy in there.. OMFG i screamed and yelled W$F are you doing in my coop!!! he was saying sorry sorry sorry i was just looking for a dry place to sleep.. i told him get the F off my property he is lucky i didn't have my gun on me otherwise i would have shot him.. and if he EVER comes back i will shoot him then call the cops...
So in the heat yesterday i spent the day wiring it and went and bought locks to lock the nest boxes, pop door, big door and screen door.. it was so HOT working in that heat i thought i was going to pass out couple times..i was sweating more then i could drink..
Again this was supposed to be a temporary home until my husband retired BUT for now i have to make it my permanent home..we are right off the freeway and there is a halfway house couple blocks away...nice house nice yard BUT way to close to people for me.. the lady across the alley said she had to get rid of her kids playhouse because people would always sleep in it..

had to edit,,guess i cant swear they automatically delete it...LOL

It is better than the old way, I sorta slipped once or twice with nasty words ( something Minnie or BC would use) and got a nasty gram and put on double secret probation for inappropriate language.....

Ok here are some pictures

This first picture is of the first attack on the ducks. The print is in mud in front of the duck house. It was very well defined and the claw marks are huge. There were for sure 2 different animals this time because there were 2 very distinct sizes in prints.

Second picture is from the attack last night. The definition is not as good as the print is in sand in the coop run.

Just got caught up on the posts.
So sorry about Big Bird!! You tried really hard. Such a shame.

Rhetts, sorry about your attack. I hope you can figure out what it is and how to stop them. Coffee sounds good!! Next time.

A fly Strike Minnie? I did look up the pictures. Not pretty like you said. Poor bird. Sorry.

Sure glad it cooled down. Blizzard next week? ;-)

Had a great time with the kid. Great steak dinners, rides on 4 wheelers and dirt bikes, great view from the top of the ski hill at The Quarry at Giants Ridge.
All and all had a great time.

Tried to do a day with no work around the house allowed. Just the DW and I. We both had to remind eachother that we couldn't do any work because we both started on that thought. Funny how changing a daily thing is so hard. But we are having a good day and now to a freinds for some dinner.
:)

That looks like wolf to me, Rhetts.

That looks to be a 4- 41/2 inch track, Also look at the toes nails. They go straight forward with no slant to the outside edge,

Cover the tracks with a pie tin and call the warden, he should bring in a federal trapper and give you forms for your loss. BUT be prepared for him to say " nope, it's a dog, or coyote" "BUT do not shoot a wolf or you will pay 25k fine!"

This may have changed now that wolves are off the endangered list, Maybe they would even give you a permit to trap or shoot them. BUT I doubt it.

Or there is always the three S's .....

I took a motorcycle ride up to wabasha and then down the river and back across. Found lots of great roads down in the bluffs, for sight seeing and riding both. I was amazed how many cool farms j saw with goats and geese and Llammas and the like. One place had to have over 100 goats for sure! Came home and we are on for chicken tv now that the weather is nice!! Welcome back all!!

it was a beautiful labor day weekend, right?

except Rhetts, I am sorry about your birds. Ralphie is right, I'm thinking wolf as well.

sand hill cranes are gathering and calling, geese in v formation every morning and evening. both cranes and geese are loud, but its a good sound.

made good progress on the wood shed, my partner and I had to talk it out first though. We think totally differently and have learned before jumping in on a project, its best to sit with coffee and draw it out, talk it through....makes for less frustration in the end. I'm happy because I think I will not need to buy anything, except probably screws. Hardest thing was trying to figure out a logical place to locate the darned thing.

chickens were all over the wood, hopping up on the frame, and of course, right there while I was trying to dig a little to level the cement blocks it will sit on. And whoever said they are going for the crabgrass seeds, they were harvesting that like crazy.

Now I just have to find someone who is selling firewood!

It was a beautiful day! We got a lot accomplished.
We sure could use a 'sit and chat it out before starting anything' rule over here!! LOL
Good luck on your firewood search. Prices are steep again this year and its been hard to find good wood to be delivered to us. We are still looking. Just not gonna pay $200 a cord. Can't do it.
I will call the DNR tomorrow. I hope they are decent enough folk. I figure they must deal with things like mine around here.
