Minnesota!

I added to my redneck resume today. I somehow popped the tire off the bead on my mower bagger trailer and my air compressor didn't have the flow to re seat the bead. I tried 'something j think I saw on the Internet once' and reset it using a can of ether

Now my tire is inflated and I can scratch 'trim arm hair' off my to do list since I don't have much left haha
Yeah we tried that once with out success. Maybe we just aren't redneck enough to git r done.

I know, where is everyone? Anywhoo, here are some photos of the inside of the new run, just to post something of course ;) . that is so noce!! Well done. So you add sand? How does that work out for you? Do they play with tje toy? I left the hardware cloth around the original run and made a door so that I can separate birds, and new birds when needed.

I think I am going to keep my guineas!!

I have the leader in prison on death row, Since he is out of the group the others have become well behaved. They have started following the BA that adopted them. The BA is happy leading her little kids around. So I might as well keep them. I enjoy walking them travel across the lawn eating bugs and ticks.

As long as they do not start picking and bullying my other birds and they stay off the road they can stay here. Last night they actually followed the BA into the coop to roost.
hmm, myabe you could rent them out the way goats are rented...except they would never come back I guess.... it's gonna be interesting to see how long they stay in chicken mode with the BA.

Cluckies, that is one beautiful run!

lordy I hope I am not boring the pants off y'all with these quail.

DId you know supposedly keeping them anywhere near chickens is a death threat , more or less immediately, to the quail? They have been here a week, and so far so good
They have already been exposed to whatever, since they occupy the broody busting run and an old coop.

Here is part of the crew roosting tonight:

Ralphie, they like the windswept ground like pheasants....

And does anyone else remember petting bumblebees as a kid? This mornign the golden rod were covered with sleeping bees:

Have to count this weekend as one of the best....made apple jalopeno jelly today. FLock got the peelings and cores.

Still working on why keep quail, but I am wondering if the kick of the teeny eggs will be worth the effort. Since these are 3 month olds, I will be lucky to see eggs in March.....and I haven't started on that expansion run thats going to be needed to give the covey enough room not to murder each other come spring.

Lesson learned.

Preparing for a colonoscopy and cleaning out a chicken coop are incompatible.

Not much is!

That is so nice!! Well done. So you add sand? How does that work out for you? Do they play with the toy

Thank you, yep, I add sand, unlike Ralphie, I do not live on sand, it is clay. When it gets wet, takes forever to dry in the run, terrible, slippery mess. So I was going to let them eat all the green and weeds in there before adding the sand, but I came home last monday from work, they had only been in there one day, there was stinky, icky poo everywhere, dragged into the hen house, in the nesting boxes. Poor monther was limping and shaking her leg, I thought she was injured, nope, she was just trying to get the poo off that was stuck to her foot.
With the sand, it is self cleaning, their feet are always clean, the poo gets coated in sand and does not stick to anything, it is not stinky, no mess in the henhouse or nesting boxes, not stinky, the sand dries it up. I love sand!!!! ;)

Yes, they do play with the toys, they are cat treat balls for fat cats. as you move the ball around, treats fall out. I put a mixture of scratch and sunflower seeds in there and they beak them around to knock the treats out, gives them something to do (got them at fleet farm) you can dial up the size of hole you want. The yellow one in there is a chicken treat ball, only thing with those are my chickens tend to break them open, so don't really have to work for the treats, I don't usually use them anymore. Little stinkers.

hmm, myabe you could rent them out the way goats are rented...except they would never come back I guess.... it's gonna be interesting to see how long they stay in chicken mode with the BA.
