Minnesota!

@Cyrus83 your excitement for the weekend shoot is palpable. We've been doing some scouting around here and the local ducks haven't flocked up yet. I suppose all that summer weather has them doodling around the lakes yet. DH says numbers are down too. We have an exuberant eagle population here.

Another good reason he enjoys NoDakota and the Northerners late season.

But I'm sure you know some good pot holes where you are going....

What kind are they?

To anyone growing BBB or BBW turkeys... How high will they jump/fly? DW and I are considering growing a small batch to butcher next year and are considering housing. Would a electric netting fence keep them in if they had everything they wanted/needed inside?

The area where we would want to keep them (which is far from the chickens) is unlevel ground with small walnut trees growing around. We are thinking a large area inside the electric netting that we could move around would be better than a tractor type setup both in ease of care and in terms of turkey life quality.

When they are young they will jump and fly 3-4 ft high When they get older they do not go more than a foot or two up, at least mine don't. You will not really need a fence. Turkeys never run away and their preferred sitting/roosting area is the back porch/deck.

I would think your fencing idea would work. Just know turkeys are naturally friendly and love people.

Duck numbers around here are not great either, I am not a big fan of opener weekend but I always go just to get back in the swing of things and get a little wing shooting practice. I dont get to shoot nearly as much in the off season as I used too, so I usually blow a few holes in the sky opener weekend. I'm going out on the St. Croix with one buddy, its going to be pretty warm so I'm hoping the kayakers will be out in force jumping the birds out of the backwaters and over to me.
