Minnesota!

I think rabbit is delicious, would raise them but they are boring. Really boring. So i eat a lot of eggs instead.

I'm having a dilemma....i adore one of the new goats we got and both goats are already sold as chevron. I could keep George (the goat i adore) if I could find 2 more goats....one to join the goat i don't much care for on butcher day and one to hang out with George. But i also need my critters to contribute so i guess it would have to be a dairy goat, in milk. Sigh.

The goats and chickens seem to be getting along just fine. The chickens prefer to hang out in the goat shed and the goats prefer the chicken porch.

I am worried to death every night that the fowl and goats will be chilly. This is my first winter with outside critters (besides horses) and, well, i worry.

Looks like the integration is going ok. Nothing too wild happened this morning. I overslept a bit on accident so I didn't have as much time as I would have liked to be in the coop but they were already on the ground and moving about. I threw an early scratch to them in the coop to get everyone moving and entertained.

Jr. is Bert junior. He is half Cx & half Dixie rainbow
Oh is he the white one with red on his wings? If that is him he is cool looking. I have one CX hen (Betty white) that will be part of the breeding program and i look forward to seeing the results of mixing colorful Roos over a white hen and seeing what kind of meaty splash I end up with

Light frost the last two mornings. Reminds me of one thing... Bowhunting season is now in session!!! It actually started early Sept, but I usually wait until the first few light frosts before I go out. (I dont like to swat mosquitos in the stand.)

No it doesnt do much damage to the rabbits. Im also talking of the big jacks out in the fields. Typically when I bag one its usually during fall tillage when I am carrying the gun with me in the tractor. Im sure there would be waste if you were to shoot a cottontail at 20 yards with a .17(I would choose my old rusty but trusty .22 for that.)

I should have specified what type of rabbit.

Ralphie, the ones KK got from me weren't the CRX, but something more along these lines ;)

This is a young trio, about 6-7 months old that I hatched. I have been working with the LF Dark Cornish for 4 years now. I am working on White Laced Reds too, but they aren't the color pattern they should be, so I consider them a project still.

Ahh I was thinking they were more like my little white rock I had. She was definitely not a CX either. I guess I was just pointing out my best cross and how fun it was. I have a EE that is a cross with ED, the partridge Chanticler and a EE hen. It is an interesting bird, looks like an EE kind of, but a very think body like Ed is. However, I am thinking it is not a girl, so it's usefulness will mainly be as a space holder in freezer camp.

They will do fine during the winter. Just give them a wind break and they are happy. Come spring you will not recognize them with all the fur/hair they will have.

Yep, that is him.

He is becoming a man rooster now. He is still wimpy and will never stand up to another rooster, it is just not in his genes. He lives with Bertha (sis) and the 67 CX pullets. The last few nights he has been a PITA to get to go into the tractor/brooder. He walks around the entrance but refuses to go in. I tried several times last night to get him in and he just ran around me to stand by the door again.

Once the last pullet went in, he went in. Then it dawned on me, he is becoming a rooster and doing rooster work. I was really impressed by this. Of Course, he has a long ways to go to become like the late great Brutus. Brutus would actually round up the girls and make them go into the coop, then he would go in and sleep on the floor by the door.

He was the greatest rooster that ever lived, matter of fact someone even started a thread on his greatness and feats of glory, but alas when he died way too young the thread did too.

Even Ed as good as he is, is not a Brutus.
