As coffee said " WOW what a day"
My knee is killing me, even the Mikes did not cut the pain.
EJB it a was a great social event. We sent 60 birds to camp and I kept 6 back to join juniors harem.
We even drank some coffee early on, I think we switched to harder things at noon, London time. It was a trying day, We had all ages and lots of people here. Jeff meet the meth boys and they meet with his approval I think.
I did not have to personally take the head off any birds, I am grateful for that. They really do become like pets to me. They were on the small side. I do not think any made 9 pounds, I think there were a few 8 pounders. The birds were use to being held. So they did snuggle when they were held.
I am sure the guys dispatching the birds were getting tired of me, I had hard and fast rules, NO Holding the bird upside down, I did not want the stress on them or the discomfort. I was constantly checking and asking if the bird they were holding had a ring on its leg.
I am going to have to make some killing cones, we had a few birds break their wings when hanging upside down. The breasts were huge, I am thinking we will get 4 servings from the breast of each bird. Next year I go for 15 pounds!
Aussigal stopped by to make sure we did not run out of Corona. it was a thoughtful. luckily the cooler was not empty, but it could have been. I did not get any pictures. other than a few of the set up before we started.
Coffee thinks I have a hen in the rooster pen. I admit I have one that keeps me guessing. EJB she fell in love with Ed, said he was a beautiful rooster. Of course, the creamettes charmed everyone, but they are just eye candy so why wouldn't they?
I am pretty sure this was a redneck event.. As soon as the last chicken was sent to camp, the gunfire started. I being the perfect host handed out ear plugs to everyone. My knee hurt too bad for me to take part in the shooting.
So many did not want their liver, gizzards and hearts. so I have a few huge bags of the tasty morsels. I Still have lots of cleaning and picking up to do tomorrow and get a rooster caged and make it to Aussiegals house before the bar closes there.
If I was to critique the day honestly, I would say I need a better way to keep the scalding water temp constant.
We dunked the birds in soapy warm water before scalding, it really helped keep the scalding water clean.
Andyways that's the day!
