Minnesota!

O degrees here this morning, and we got to move 18+ inches of snow yesterday. The total snowfall for the winter so far is over 10 feet. The chickens from one coop got a little time in the sunshine yesterday afternoon and loved it, but the fenced runs have about 4 ft of snow at this point, and if I leave the coop doors open so the chickens can get out I need to stand guard so the deer don't go in to eat the feed out of the feeders.
Spring is long overdue, and I hope we don't see anymore appreciable (over 2 inches) snowfalls.

Here,Here!!!
I feel for you folks up north of the Cities. Uff-da! Maybe you will get lucky on the back side and get a longer summer/fall?

Maybe I will try to do a mix for them.  I am sure their diet is part of this equation.  I keep them outside year-around too.  They have a little house to go in, but are out about 350 days of the year.  The Calls are in a hutch though with an indoor out door set-up.

So, Heidi, how are those lovelies you got from me?  I have some January hatch birds that my kids are going to show from, and they are looking gorgeous now!  I can't wait to get them outside on grass soon.  Do you think we will see grass before June? :th
The chicks are doing wonderfully. They are really feathering beautifully.

They should be about 5 weeks now, I picked them up on the 19th of march and they were 1-10 days old (the cochins looked to be in the 1-3 day range) then.

Phil,
You are obviously right. I didn't have the dates on me when I made the guess. As much feathering as Heidi's have, they must be closer to 5-weeks.
I have lots more Cochins here too! The fertility is going up and they are laying very well.
It is good to see the birds on here. I hope they look as good as their parents in a few months, or better.

It amazes me just how heavy these little buggers are. I have them in with 32 ducklings at the moment and have had to relocate them 4 times now. I have had to give them the run of the whole north side of the barn so the Runner ducklings don't get to fat on me. Everyday the chicks have more feathering and some look like they are wearing pants with boots on. At night they all go into a 14 x 14 pen that is all seccure with two heat lamps do to this stupid weather. Once most of the ducklings have feathered out they will go in with the adults so the chicks will have more room and dryer too. I have been changing the bedding everyday around the water to keep it as dry as I can.
