Minnesota!

That is a great idea!  I am not particularly fond of them myself, but I am not fond of Polish either and some others love them.  Whatever floats your boat, right?  You should get some interesting input from people.

I have noticed over the course of raising different batches of CRX that some strains are calmer and easier to raise than others.  The last batch I got from McMurray had me swearing them off.  They were spastic.  I was afraid they would break a leg or something because they were trying to fly up all the time and would get a couple feet off the floor and crash down.  Plus, there were some really aggressive males and the consistency in size was huge.
I order from Stromberg's and they normally come up from Texas or New Mexico, and I like those strains very much for size and consistency and temperament.

This year's batch was from Hoover (ordered through Stromberg's) and they were calm, consistent in size, but they were smaller than the ones I get from down South, and you could see that right as chicks they started smaller.
You should set up that thread from your computer at home and get it rolling.  You know at least one big guy who would join you in that venture.  IF he ever shows up on here again!

I intend to. Plus if I do it from home I can add photographic evidence :)

Mine also came from hoovers this year and agree that their strain was very mellow. I didn't have the male aggression in mine and I kept a few until 11 or 12 weeks and a few were already pretending to start crowing!

They came out healthy sized and fairly consistent for me but this was my first time doing broilers in about 8 years so I don't had anything to compare I first hand.

My apologies. I meant that as a random sarcastic crack, not to promote political debates. I personally dislike politics and find the humankind as a whole unfit for wielding that kind of power.

It's tough sometimes not to make a snarky political comment. But then again, as a lonely tree-hugger I have to keep my mouth shut about many things.
Not that it bothers me, but we should not get huffy if someone makes a laden comment and there is a response in disagreement (such as wolves?).

We interrupt this awkward friendly tension to bring you this funny chicken photo!!

Advice needed about a polish silkie bantam!

first of all, what was someone thinking? I didn't know there was such a thing, but one is coming in that group of pullets I'm getting anytime soon. My question is, wont that critter get picked on? I do have some smaller birds in the flock, and some large crested birds, but....everything I've read says polish don't do well in a large mixed flock, and that a silkie won't do well in a large mixed flock, and a bantam......so put them together and oh my!

WIll it make it in the winter without supplemental heat? Any suggestions? Anyone thinking of a house chicken?

I'm glad that we all get along on here and I think we have many commonalities in our love for CHICKENS.

That being said I think we should try to keep politics off the thread.
Not everybody shares same viewpoints and thus the BYC rule.

This is an objective statement.

Not intended to be "Huffy."

Pure and simple.

And yes the wolf debate gets wearing. No matter what side you're on. These old horses do not need to be beat to death.

LaLa:

I have a silkie among my standards. She does get picked on a bit. But I free range and she choses to hang with them or not. She's very spunky though and her crest isn't very large so she can see any aggressiveness coming her way. She goes broody every 20 days or so...and then sits for a couple weeks. then she has to re integrate to the flock each time. She winters just fine in my coop. Not much for added heat. She's done well the last two winters.

I found that the Polish males got their heads pecked by others, but the pullets were generally left alone.
