Minnesota!

We spent some time playing with the kittens in the living room tonight. trying to get the dogs acclimated to them. Our hound likes them but our lab/pit is still anxious. Her absolute favorite thing is chasing squirrels and rabbits and some days i worry she will knock out a window when she sees them from inside. She nipped at one of them tonight a bit and that resulted in me taking her down and biting her neck then time out. after that and then a little heart to heart she was able to come out and lay nicely on the couch and watch from a distance. That gives me hope that she will eventually get comfortable with them, but it is going to be a long road. Im afraid if we dont work on it she will just end up running them off when they get outside.

The kittens are just getting to the playful age and love snuggling.

Klop with the dog and kitten ordeal you may try the "leave it. Mine" in a deep low stern voice. I did this with chicken training with the new Labrador. She's interested in the chickens yet... More than I like. But she came to heel when I said that to her just today. I'm sure would work the same with kittens and pit mix. The pits are smart dogs too.

What do all of you use on the floor of your coops for the winter? I have been using shavings, but I am thinking about switching to sand. If that is a good idea, how deep of sand do you have? 3",4"??

BC in my dogs I find the HEEL command is stronger than anything other. They do most commands but sometimes their curiosity tends to over ride their brains and they ignore sit or stay or do them for a half a second. but Heel brings them back to me and the closer they are the smarter they seem to get.

Nov 1st and my Rose bushes are starting to bloom again...maybe we get to skip winter this year...
So wrong. My hibiscus is blooming also but it was time to bring it in so I don't mind.

poor molting amelia. chickens look so funny without tails.
Looks like my Icelandics, they are molting later then the rest and still haven't got their tail feathers in. Oh to be beautiful again!

Stop posting kittens. The DW starts wanting one. They are cute though.
If you don't want to go through kitten phase, my mom has a couple of cats that need a home. Just a suggestion.

Ralphie, I would love to take credit for the outbuilding, however, the people before us had the gravel pit in town & they would run semis in & out of here. I guess there is some testing that needs to be done on rocks. DS is happy about it all, he doesn't freeze his bottom when he's working. Ok he really doesn't ever freeze, he's very warm blooded. I'm so glad that you grabded the rest of the bales, now I don't have to look at them or move them some where else! Really I'm a closet lazy person.
