Minnesota!

Crazy.. It's 2am and looked at my temperature reading and it is 47° out in the coop and here I was worried about it being too cold for the girls..

My girls were happy with me today, I came home early from work and let them out of the coop. They've been locked up all week and they're already in bed when I get home at my normal time. Most of the snow melted today so they were thrilled to be out in the yard running and flapping and hopping and chasing the dogs... I wish I could get a video of the dog chasing, it's pretty funny.

Oh do, please! I'd love to see it!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
I'm thankful for all of my forum friends, my wonderful group of nine feathered ladies, that Minnie sent me all girl eggs, and my awesome dogs who put up with those pullets when they could easily chomp their heads off instead :)

Sounds like several of us have randy roosters. I don't have the cajhones to cull him myself but he's going in the pot for soup, one way or another. I've got hens hiding from him now - spending most of the day pretending to be dogs\cats and staying in their house or burrowing up in the hay bails. Dang rooster.

Scandia - I'm glad your Momma is okay. Good for her giving him a taste of his own medicine.
mistahblue, you probably already know this, but roosters are the worst their first year or so. It also helps if the hens, or at least some of them, are older because they will usually help socialize the rooster a bit.

If they are always hiding from him, you could always throw him in a separate pen for awhile, or even let him free range to give the girls a break til you can get him culled.

I am lucky with ralphie's roo because he seems calm (but that can change as he is still young) and the older girls give him a pretty good chase. He likes the silkie alot, but she is able to get him to back off. Dang, I have to get that rooster a name. I think the problem is I am stuck on "finnegan", but can't use it because it was the name for a boy that my daughter would have used if Olivia was, well, Finnegan.

I'm thankful for everyone here, too!

Happy Thanksgiving!

edited to add:

I'm having mini pumpkin pie and coffee for breakfast, the pumpkin pie had a little too much filling so I baked the extra in small ramekins. Next year I might make the whole pie that way and skip the crust.

the flock is going to be thankful for the thanksgiving plate scraping - everyone knows not to throw out the food left on their plate but add it to the chicken "dishes" which are old enamel dish pans.

Name him Ralph

Hope everyone has a great day.. Here is my girl today.. Think I will cull her after I get the pumpkin bars in oven .. I do have enough meds for couple more days but don't think that will help much..

What a story on this lady. You will have to keep us updated. Still hoping it all works out.

Happy Turkey Day!!!
Up at 7:30 to start getting breakfast ready. Before that, it is time for some Italian espresso out of my moka pot. Good coffee, good day.
Had my Turkey soaking in a sweet spicy brine and I will stuff it with the traditional garlic sage. Also had the batter for the popovers resting overnight.
Sweet potato souffle with marsh mellows and pecan strudel topping.
Garlic mashed potatoes.
A rich cream cheese, fresh rosemary gravy.
Mixed veggie with fresh herbs and olive oil.
Corn on the cob.
Also a very important part. I super buttery Chex mix. I baked it for hours.

This is all a lot of fun for me because I haven't had the chance to do this in years.
