Minnesota!

U-MN doc called back he wants her brought in alive and if I can keep her alive till Friday..

I have a call in to a Doctor Porter he is the avian specialist vet. The avian department said he might want me to bring her in alive. So I will wait to cull her till I hear from Doc.. Hope it's today.
I really like him, he worked with me on the mareks last fall. Very responsive, helpful.....they work mostly with big poultry flocks, so some of his advice was probably very sound for that type of situation but not necessary with a backyard flock.

That is great that you are bringing her in. keeping my fingers crossed.

scandia, hate that when a rooster gets too much testosterone and behaves that way. I'm always a little cautious during that first year when they are maturing. Never know how they will turn out.

I have been very fortunate, and selective, and have only gotten really attacked once and that was the idiot EE cockerel two weeks ago. I had a Dark Cornish cock from McMurray that struck my leg once and went after my daughter a couple of times and just whacked her, didn't flog or get her with his feet, but not until this latest one did I actually get grabbed in the leg. I don't give those with that look in their eye a second chance, and those who drop a wing at me get a lesson the better remember if they want to keep breathing. I don't breed anything with a bad attitude and it has paid off very well for me.

My girls were happy with me today, I came home early from work and let them out of the coop. They've been locked up all week and they're already in bed when I get home at my normal time. Most of the snow melted today so they were thrilled to be out in the yard running and flapping and hopping and chasing the dogs... I wish I could get a video of the dog chasing, it's pretty funny.

Sounds like several of us have randy roosters. I don't have the cajhones to cull him myself but he's going in the pot for soup, one way or another. I've got hens hiding from him now - spending most of the day pretending to be dogs\cats and staying in their house or burrowing up in the hay bails. Dang rooster.

Scandia - I'm glad your Momma is okay. Good for her giving him a taste of his own medicine.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!!!

We are planning to work outside on the 'chicken palace' tomorrow. Hoping we have good weather.

Don't eat too much tomorrow! Here's to no burned dishes, scorched thumbs, fingers, or singed eyebrows.

Or cut off finger tips using a mandolin slicer... Don't know who would do that on Thanksgiving a few years ago...

But I will say this, always, always use the guard...
