Minnesota!

Alright, I'll admit it. I had a "big fish" syndrome going on (ex. I caught a fish, and it was THIS big). My big roo is 11 pounds, and he's 7 months old. He does have my red rangers beat though.

@minniechickmama here's the pics of the hens I have.

Poor hen, the roosters gave her a bare patch on her head. She has no lacing. Not sure what to do with her. Very sweet temperament, that's the only thing I'd breed her for.

This must be a sister to the other. She has feather splitting, and those splashes of dark feathers. That would disqualify, right? Sweet temperament too.

This one I think I'll keep to start the flock. She isn't fantastic, but definitely better than the others. She has rich shimmery black feathers that have no hint of green in them. Just a black with black/gray sheen.

Apparently this black one with the tan splotched head was supposed to be a bbs. Why can't people do a better job at breeding!! Ugh. Will sell her as a mixed flock layer.

Here's the lacing I need, on the wrong bird!!! Argh!!

Here's some fun pics:

My little lemon cuckoo I will be selling this spring, if he decides he's a he like I think he is. It's pretty dark, he has more cuckoo than the picture makes out. That isn't a ton of poo in the background, it's actually a black tarp. I got sick of newspaper under their roosts and switched to a trap that I can reuse and shake off.

White maran for egg color variety for eggs.

Some really lovely jubilee orpingtons (Although they almost look spangled/mottled to me). I was actually really impressed by this breeders quality. Eggs came from south Carolina. I will likely sell them as a breeding pair this spring. That red ranger in the top left, what a goofball. She is totally photo bombing the picture!

My goofy little California white that we named white castle. She is always into something.

I also have Easter eggers for egg color. Hopefully I finally get some blue or green eggs. That's all of it! I have my buffs in there too, but they will likely go... and I will end up with just bbs orpingtons and colored egg layers for the CSA.

I will be going to lots of shows this year just to see different birds and I could look for you. I am pretty positive I am showing at the local fair and the Hutchinson show.

I've never shown before, but I really want to! If you know of shows, please send them my way and let's meet up at them!! :)

hey Athalia, if y ou are going to try to get the scab off on the bumblefoot, it really really helps to start with an epsom salt soak - wait 10-15 minutes before you start to work at getting the scab off. Takes a while.

I do not treat bumblefoot unless the foot is tender to the touch, or swelling, or the chicken is limping. Most of the time it heals on its own.

Klopklop, the sick hen doesn't have anything visibly wrong with feet or legs, so definitely not bumblefoot. Today she actually stood for maybe 15 seconds. Ok, maybe 10 seconds.

It is snowing here, I'm trying to get stuff done before the bitter cold. Have to run to the hardware store in town for an extension cord, because I can't get into the shed. I have cement blocks in front to support a ramp for the lawn tractor, and they have heaved just enough to block the door from opening. I can't kick the blocks free of the door. Shoot, that's a waste of money to have to buy something I already have! But I need the cord to use for the little heated waterer for the bo that is in the hospital/brooder cage.

athalia, how long have you been doing a CSA?  and what part of mn are you in?

Last year was my first year. We just moved to a couple of acres, and I am a master gardener for Dakota county (2nd official year, so still a newbie), and live heirlooms. So I decided to grow veggies, then I decided to start grinding my own wheat and making bread, so I knew where my bread was coming from. Then I decided to sell shares to friends, they told their friends, and at the end of the year... I had 15 people!! :/ I'm in Farmington, technically castle rock. Oh, my csa name is abundant vine, I'm on fb.

Thank you for the info on the scab. I got that off, but couldn't dig any farther. If there was white stuff in there, I was too much of a pansy to find out!
