It's a mix from my flock. We won't know until they hatch. A light egg which would be a Bresse or Red Star. And who the baby daddy is?

There must be something about that doghouse! Is it used by a dog or only hens?

It is a doghouse that was built in a shop class. Heavier than heck. INo dog yet. I figured I would end up with a dog sooner or later with all the strays that show up. got the dog house and not one stray in 3 years. I don't want to adopt a dog unless I have the proper time to devote to it, especially in the beginning. A desperate stray though, I would offer whatever I could, if that makes sense.


@KlopKlop , whats the story on the kitties? Are they outside your shop yet? how is it going?

SO glad you asked LaLa! I forgot to share! here is what we spent our early Sunday morning doing! the kittens made their final move out of my shop to a different shed where I cut a cat flap. we then spent the morning playing in the snow with the kittens and puppies! they had a blast playing on my new grain wagon I bought last week for storing corn. we were thrilled that our dogs did so well with them. we have been practicing being nice with our lab mix pup. she has been a bit anxious around them, knowing she should be nice and fighting the urge to chase them. She played so nice with them!

Does anyone have any advice on when to hatch? I hatched too late into the fall for sure. I'm nervous about hatching too early in the spring. Pros and cons hatching now vs April?

I'm not the best example. But I'd gauge when the cold has passed and the chicks can be safely outside.
