yuck, frozen cracked open eggs are so disappointing! I'm actually starting to have eggs to give to family an friends again, but lost most of yesterdays egg to the cold.

Lala I used wheat with some other stuff in it. The guy at tge feed mill acidently mixed oats and wheat and gave me a bag for free. It could have been barley and not oats... I dont remember.

I have seen people grow them in cheap tupperware and even take out food containers. doesnt have to be fancy or complicated! just makes sure they have plenty of air flow to prevent mold and water at least 2x a day.

oats have been working great for me!

Check it out! i tripled my grow bench area (not couting my fodder system. 8 feet x 2ft on top and 4 ft x 2ft on bottom

I think i may enclose the back and sides on half of the top and add doors to make a sort of greenhouse but we will see.
my herbs are coming up nicely, lettuce and kale are growing quickly, my onion starts are about 2 inches tall and my strawberries are looking dandy, ready for transplant this spring.

klopklop, that is absolutely amazing. I wish I had space for starting plants, I really miss being able to choose exactly what kind of tomatoes, etc I want to grow.

Think this year I will make a project out of starting a new asparagus bed. The patch I have really hasn't been doing well and weeds choke out the plants, even though it is 8 years old. Every time I try to weed it thoroughly I end up killing off an asparagus plant. I have maybe 2 good plants, the others - nah. I'm thinking if I take a big area and cover it with tarp or something, and let it kill the weeds all summer then I could probably get it planted and maintained with a good layer of leaf or hay mulch.

With 15 hours of commuting a week, and kayaking on the weekends, there just isn't as much time to garden as i would like. I've cut way back, down to tomatoes, garlic, kale, peas, beans, squash, pumpkins, strawberries, basil, leeks, and a small potato patch.

I heard we will likely have an early spring this year!! and last night was about 10 degrees warmer than predicted, so it was only -4 this morning.
