Minnesota!

I can only get about 3 so shipping them can't happen. Strombergs is way to far to drive.

I totally get that. ;) I didn't think you were getting many of them living so close to the Cities. There is someone in town here raising like a dozen in the middle of town. Maybe it is just ten, but still. PE-EW! I hope they clean them often!

Candled eggs tonight, every one had and eye looking back at me! Wow!
I'm in the process of creating a brooding space in my coop, cause mom said no more chicken dust in the house.
It's good to be home!!!!

Scandia, good luck getting the brooder going.

I went scavanging at Jessie's, the local junk guy. He has two roosters living in a small trailer with a truck topper on top, looks very cozy. I did get fence posts from him, and there is some ribbed steel roofing I might use once I have figured out what the heck I am doing.

Am reduced to making little paper pieces representing all the warehouse gating, and putting them together to find a workable design.

Have you thought about using the fencing and then putting an arched roof over it using the ribbed roofing?

What a fun afternoon. A local family who buys eggs from me stopped by with their four and two year old. My EE has started laying again and I was able to give each boy a blue egg. They had a hard time understanding that the egg came out of the chicken that way, but they sure loved getting them!

I like the idea of using the warehouse cage panels for walls, with a hoop roof, covered with the ribbed tin panels. Or maybe a three sided coop with the warehouse cage panels on the south side. Or......

This will be the 4rh coop I will have built in about 15-20 years and each time I spend way too much time thinking and figuring it out. I totally understand Minnie's thing about having tried all these different coops and wanting to use the plan that worked the best. If I only knew what that was!

Its snowing!

Here are the things I consider most important now: (of course, after the must consider like size for number of birds ;) )
Ease of cleaning
Orientation to take advantage of natural light and solar effect
Ease to build

I just picked up some good pallets this week to use as wall frames for some of the coops I am going to be building soon. So, those will be based of the 40"x48" size of those.
