Ooh! That Icelandic is handsome!

I agree, that Icelandic is very pretty.

They are ALL impressive.
Thanks!

The sfh hen I already have is going to be so pretty next to the others, she is a blue/grey color with gold in hackles and the white spots.

I can't wait till the young icelandics I have are grown up and can join the roo!

Thanks!

I do like those Sussex, but count me out on the Icelandics and SFs. Being that this is a Minnesota thread and there many a Norwegian here, some of you should try the Norwegian Jaerhons. They are supposed to be super layers even through the cold and dark months. I had some a few years ago and they are pretty and come in two color patterns. Just a thought. They lay white eggs and like all white eggers can be very flighty.

mnhomestead, that is really a gorgeous icelandic! now, pics of the pullets?

and miniechickmama, have you had bad experiences with icelandics and sfh? I have one icelandic pullet, she is skittish as heck. Love the way sfh look. I'm going to have to look up the norwegian jaerhons - thats a breed I have never heard of. so many chicken breeds!

I'm a fan of the coronation Sussex myself. Gorgeous...regal looking birds.
Aren't they!

So much more impressive in person too. If you describe them to someone they wouldn't sound all that impressive, white bird with lavender in hackles and tail, but when you see them there is just something that commands attention!

Why not the icelandics and sfh? I think the person I got my cream legbars from also has jaerhorns... might have to look them up too

Thanks! Here are a couple pics from about 2 weeks ago of the Icelandic chicks, they differ in age (ages in pics are, I think, from 5-10 weeks old)

Quote: They all look happy and healthy! I love the Icelandics because of their hardiness, their great foraging ability and the beautiful variety that they come in. I appreciate the people that have worked so hard to preserve these beauties.

The Sussex look beautiful! It will be great for you to start your own flock from them.

It sounds like your SFH will pair beautifully with the roos and hen. I can't wait to see what you get from them. You will show us pictures, right?

Thanks again for the sfh and icelandics coldupnorth, I couldn't be happier! The chickens however are going to be much happier once they can go outside again, trying to compensate with treats and need to get my fodder system up and running for them

I will get a picture of the other sfh tomorrow, she's gorgeous! And I will definitely be showing off pictures of future offspring

Hopefully everyone doesn't mind, I can only drag my husband to look at chicks and talk to him so much about chickens before he tunes me out

My homestead what a beautiful group. The Icelandic looks like my Chuckie except hid tail feathers are green/black. He came from a barnyard mix. There are so many good looking birds.
