This site does have a lot of info for new folks, but make sure you cross reference just about everything since there is a lot of misinformation on here as much as there is good. I even recommend double checking on things I tell you ;)

Welcome to the thread though, and don't be shy if you have some questions. However, there are a lot of answers available with a simple search.
 
@Minnesotanice... yes, lots of calcium available... I even have then cottage cheese as a desperate attempt of adding in more calcium. It's literally everywhere though for them. I'm currently sitting in the coop waiting for one of the culprits to lay an "egg." Poor girls, it's so hot. They are free range, but with supplemental layer feed offered at all times.
 
Hope you get it figured out, Athalia. Is this a new layer? sometimes it takes a bit before everything works when it comes to laying eggs.

I have a year old hatchery bo that has laying problems - lays a lot of rubber eggs, shell is very like a balloon. Sometimes it just happens, I expect I will have to cull her at some point because she will probably turn into an internal layer.

@scandiafowl , is the skunk still around? I'm feeling pretty good about keeping my shed free from groundhogs, bunnies, and skunks. takes effort though.

the two mamas are doing well with their chicks - although it was a bit rough today with the heat. I brought in a shallow box with some fresh dug dirt, and the one broody went nuts. chicks, of course, were terrified of the box until mama called them over for worms.

went to the coop this morning and found 2 soft shelled eggs laid on the roost overnight! I know there is some kind of virus that causes this too, so am hoping this is just coincidence, maybe related to the bad storm that had everyone in the coop a couple of hours early last night...

very smoky here this morning - those canadian wildfires are terrifying

I was just remarking to my husband when we came down that I bet the haze is from those fires in Canada, then he said, it smells like smoke. I feel terrible for those people who lost their homes, and probably their whole town from the sounds of things.

I know my girls were down on eggs day before yesterday and likely from storms brewing around us. Nothing hit here though, which was good since we are working on fencing in the pasture and need to dig posts. Then again, a little rain might have made it a little softer for that. I hate when we have to used the post hole digger in that area because we buried the old barn foundation there and there are chunks of it that get in the way. I need to clean out some pens and move birds...again. That is the story of my life this time of year when birds grow so fast and need moving out of the brooder house.

Babysitting my BIL dog. BIL is in hospital. The dog has never been on a leash before....currently she is ignoring the escape artist chicken...worried.
 





We got Ole cleaned and fluffed up yesterday. He loves getting brushed!






Minnie I cant believe how big these Buckeyes are getting!! The biggest cockerel is about the same size as one of my EE hens. They go lay in the shade all day and look very happy!
