Minnesota!

I'm glad you like the Muscovys MinnesotaNice. One day I will need to get more but I needed to make room for more chickens. Anyways I hope uget many babies from them!

Minnie I had to do the monthly demonstration for 4H last night so I brought a trio of Bucks to show the breed characteristics and just give them info on the breed. Well all the kids seemed to love them! The birds were calm and everyone was amazed they werent flapping around trying to get away! They are really warming up to me now and I am super excited for this summer!

That makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside!! I am SO glad to hear all of this!

I have a feeling this is going to be my favorite breed. They are amazing birds! The roo is already caught up with my Dixie Rainbow cross roo! And he is a big boy! I am going to get stuff set up for them soon so they can get away from the adults and into pens.

And they are molting! The are looking really good! I cant believe how shiny the roo is already!

really rough afternoon/night.

Took off work early to let the new mamas learn to go out with their babies. Spent 4 hours supervising, rooster attacked chicks, the two mamas got into it multiple times. babies scattered. Finally mamas got their babies in to the coop. One mama left a chick behind. Chick as fast as greased lightning. Took the mama out of the coop and put her in the run, and the baby would come to her but wouldn't follow her. Mama frantic to go into coop because her chicks in there were screaming distress calls. I let mama back in the coop and tried catching the lone chick again, took mama back out, repeated. No dice.

Called a neighbor to help me as I couldn't corral the chick and it was getting dark. THe run is so big and it would go under the coop and I would have to go around. She came with her daughter, chick flew out of run and into raspberry patch and then garden. Finally gave up. Chick is not well feathered at all and will probably not make it til morning. And if she does....not sure how I would get it back.

THe broody sitting on 3 eggs hatched one out. Came home to find a little squished chick in front of mama, scalped. I don't know if the hen killed it, or if it didn't make it and then she went at it? She is a first time mama and you never know.

days like this....you think you are just done with chickens. I know better days will be ahead, but doesn't feel that way right now.

@lalaland that sucks. I am sorry. Maybe it is time to block the underside of the coop with hardware cloth? Keep the chicks, the skunks and the broody hens from getting under there?

I have had a couple of days this week too that have made me want to give up, but part of what keeps us strong is to take the time to regroup and then get back at it.
