Minnesota!

Anyone close to Fergus Falls that would be interested in one or two beautiful bearded white silkies? We are afraid that we have three and can only keep one. They are from eggs that we purchased from a local person who raises them for show. They would make excellent showbirds for a 4H'er or just as pets. They are handled on a daily basis and are friendly.

Forgot to mention they are roosters. About 6 mos old

Thanks for your info, I'll leave it off in the future. My girls are still laying so it must not be as bad as I think. I have been feeding a little scratch in am and
some before I put them in for the night along with their pellets and I suppose it helps give them a small boost to keep them warmer. Do any of you let
your birds out in the snow? We got 6" so I've kept them in their run.... Don't think they'd like it but my girls love to free-range.

That top photo looks like a pair, or did someone buy the pullet/hen?
we have 3 white silkies and the 2 we are giving away are roosters. the 3RD one we are not quite sure yet what it is. that one is the runt. we are keeping that one. i have a very special bond with it :) the pictures above are just the 2 roosters. i think the bottom 2 pics ended up the same chicken.

I too thought it looked like the same bird ;)
Put up a pic of the runty one. I am sure some of us can help you figure it out.

My eggs are frozen in the nest boxes. Such a shame to have to throw them away. But with -35 wind chills, I couldn't collect the eggs fast enough. My chickens won't even leave the coops. They stay inside and mostly roost.

Fresh Eggs Daily has info about freezing her excess eggs from the fall and so she can have eggs all winter when the
hens aren't laying as much. Worth checking out .They can still be used for baking and scrambled eggs, etc. I have
been giving mine scratch in the am and before they go to bed as well as their regular food.
Helps keep them warmer. Also lube up their legs, feet, wattles, and combs with
vaseline to help protect them from the cold. My roo actually doesnt mind....
Tomorrow the temp will be double digits. What a relief... This cold this early in the season is for the birds!!!!
Penguins tho, not chickens!
