Minnesota!

Sorry I love layers I can't help with that list. I lost all my d'Uccle and all but one of my polish to our cat and I only have one Hamburg left.

If you want him you can have him, I can let you have an EE hen for him if you want, under the condition if you happen to get my porcelain egg layer we trade hens. Ole is free but I would like a few bucks for a hen, if that is acceptable. I am not selling hens but I would let one go for someone on this thread, just cause I think of us as all friends.

I could even put the hen in the pen with him so whenever we get together you can start saving EE eggs to hatch. He is a character and funny to watch. Once he gets his tail feathers back he is actually a good looking bird.

I have found guineas put roosters in their place real fast, they all kind of ignore each other while hanging out., BUT guineas are so psychotic it is hard to tell what they will do.

And look at the hairy legs on this little guy;;;

Oh my helmet heads are all whackadoodle I'll give you that.

I can pick them up tomorrow. I promise you I'll bring the hen back if she's a porcelain egg layer - never knew there was such a thing? I'm new to chickens so pick the most unlikely candidate - that will probably be the porcelain hen - and get me another one. LOL

I assume everyone knows the old adage about a dog taking on the personality of it's master..

Does the same apply to chickens? Say you have chickens that are slackers, does that mean the owner is a slacker?

Just something to ponder.......

Is soy better for them? Or is this just for raising and selling as organic birds/eggs? sorry for so many questions

Well, to be honest with you, I do not know a lot about feed. Our goal with the animals we keep is food for our family. We only barter with extended family if there are extra. We felt it was time to start eating healthier. The phrase 'you are what you eat' comes to mind. We wanted to feed our animals decent food but what does that mean? It is different for everyone. We are just learning about GMOs, organic, pesticides etc etc etc. As of right now having non gmo feed is a major factor. We are still learning about soybeans so as of now it is something we are trying to avoid. All I can say is read and learn as much as you can and make decisions based on your own families needs. There are many threads here on BYC on feed. Dandelioness has a thread on making your own feed if that interests you. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/947979/conventional-non-gmo-whole-grain-seed-recipe-for-layers

Sorry to hear of Holm's and Ralphie's losses!!! How insanely frustrating!!
Cyrus your joke actually made me chuckle. How sad am I!

I hate waiting for deliveries from Menards. Why can't they just say a more specific time frame instead of 'sometime on the 17th' I sit and wait all day and usually they don't even show. Maybe that is just our Mendards though.

Thanks! I just copied and pasted that post to print off.

We are trying to read Wheat Belly right now. I think this is my biggest struggle - bread and giving it up. More successful getting the dogs and cats to a healthier diet than we are at getting ourselves on one!!

So do cats go after chickens much? We have starts around but so far no problem.

Ours have never. We have four (one stray showed up and lives in the shed). Teeny, tiny baby chicks? Of course, who could resist that temptation? The stray loves the chickens. Rubs against them, naps on their roosts, tolerates their pecks. I think she must be lonely!
