@holm25 -Do your ducklings lay the first fall or do they go through the winter first and then start in the spring? (that is what mine did they were mid june hatchlings last spring) How early have you had ducks start laying? I was just reading that some have had Pekins start at 16 weeks. That seems ridiculous. But got me wondering if these new ducklings might lay this year. I am also having trouble getting the older ducks to behave with the younger ones. They are downright nasty. Should I just forget trying to get them to integrate and make separate areas? The ducklings are 8 or 9 weeks old but are pretty close in size to the adults.

Mine started laying before 20 weeks. BUT mine were hatched the first few weeks of April. Now my hen is laying every day. How do Khaki Campbells out lay a Pekin if mine lays everyday????

So true!! I thought Pekins were good layers and you are proving it. The new ducklings I have would reach laying age around September if I counted right. Do yours lay in the winter or do they take it off?

They lay all winter but dont breed and mine took February off.

Right now rather than know it all contests we are always in high debates for our pet peeves. DH and I. Shoes in the doorway stacked a mile high when I have a cubicle organizer in the laundry closet, eating ice cream and popcorn or a dang buffet in our bed. For him --> me leaving every cupboard door open and empty rolls of toilet paper on the spiny thing. We've tried know it all but we usually debunk each other any ways.

Roger taking the girls and foraging finally. He's been hanging around the house so much I thought he was getting old and lazy.

Rhett I need to ask this, Does it bother your husband when he meets someone that thinks they know it all?

I ask because most of us that know it all are irritated by those that just think they know it all, but don't really know it all.

Hahaha Ralphie, I read that to my husband and he said "Do you see my dilemma here?" hahaha (He also knows it all...)

So, I had to go to a graduation for a couple of hours today, checked the weather, said no rain, so I left the hen house windows wide open... While I was gone, a storm blew through with sideways rain from the north. Well, it rained in my hen house, all the wood shavings were soaked, the whole floor. I spent the rest of the afternoon getting them out and putting new in (had to run to TSC) Plus, the ladies were po'd, I spent the time listening to the ladies yell at me and tell me the hell they went through as they didn't have anywhere to go to get out of the wind and the rain. I swear, they yelled at me for over an hour!

Do not trust the stupid weather people. They can't get anything right! Wet windblown hens, are not happy hens...

NO NO NO!!


That is the "perpetual motion device" we were all told about in high school physics that was an impossibility. Dogs eat chicken poop, chickens eat dog poop, dogs eat chicken poop, chickens eat dog poop and on and on, We never have to buy feed again..


MY computer is acting up and skipping more than the L's today!!! Arrrgh

I am going to Togo today, so I will be out of contact with the world. For some reason even though Togo is the center of the universe there is no cell service there. We had looked into getting a landline into the cabin but the Big Fork phone company wanted 18k to run a line to it. We decided we did not need a phone.

I am leaving my DW home to take care of the birds. I will be taking my Lab which looks like a BC's fully grown. I will, with luck be able to instruct her tomorrow by cell phone, as I am going to an auction Makinin. (spelling) I worry that if I cannot get cell service their the DW will be sitting in a corner shaking from indecision, as without my daily instruction she cannot survive......(Beat that Rhett!)


I will be back Wednesday afternoon, at which time I will be able to review the posts and give my priceless sagelike advice. Now I need to pack, it appears my DW forgot to pack my stuff for me, I am sure she is truly sorry for not having done it.

Ky chickens better lay!!!! I need 2 Brown eggs, and 2 Greeb/Blue eggs by 2:00 for 4H, i guess i forgot when the show was LOL
