Gratz on the good hatch.

I again have more eggs not hatching than hatching.

I moved the Broody BA hen and her 10 keets to the guinea gulag. I may have to change the name to guinea Nursery.

I have 5-7 week old keets in it, Ethel and her 5 babies and now the BA and her 10 keets. The one turkey hen is still sitting on eggs in there also, I think she has about 40 eggs, not sure. I doubt any will hatch, time will tell.

The BA broody was not happy with the move, but once she got into the pen the first thing she did was take a sand bath.

And now for the real reason I came online.... Ethel came back with 5 babies this afternoon. I searched for her nest with no luck. Here are a few more pictures. LOOK at the variation in colors, I have one that looks like a guinea but way bigger! Penguin has a twin, almost. there is a little red on the twin. Ethel is not happy with me right now. I picked her up and carried her and her babies into the Guinea gulag, I thought she was going to bite me!
Am almost swooning and the sight of mamma and her babies!

The difference between chickens and turkeys is like the difference between cats and dogs.

The turkeys want to be with you, they follow you talk to you, not just when you have food. They like to be with all people. My granddaughter was here she is 4 in August the poults followed her everywhere she loves them. She thinks JJ is funny, and of course, when we have company JJ has to be right there in the middle.

Chickens are like cats, they like you when you have food but are basically indifferent towards us. They take and never give back..

I Was just out watching the BA and her keets, she is a good Momma. Do you think there is a chance her keets will grow up to be normal or will Abby Normal like all Guineas?

Jeffery...

Minnie, I have a question for you.

The Cream legbars I have are from your stock correct?

I need to know how you got them crossed with road runners?

When it comes time to put them to bed they are the fastest little buggers. They refuse to run into the brooder/tractor. They prefer to run under the lilac bushes, under the scrap iron trailer or under the old granary. They run fast and look like the road runner avoiding Wiley coyote. They point their head low and in the direction they want to run, stretch their tail out straight behind them for better aerodynamics and off they go.

Last night we had every bird in the tractor except one. I had him cornered, he flew up and over the brooder. So back to square one. We finally got him headed to the door, we use a funnel made of OSB to force them to go in and not around, when 2 others ran out the door and under my DW's legs. This is not an isolated event it is every night with them. The act more like guinea than chickens. Obstinate and strong headed and faster than us old people. They may find themselves in the coop with a covered run sooner than they think.
You loon, you got the Cochins from me and Legbars from Tripell ;)

Has your mother rubbed off on you, or is it just genetics starting to kick in? LOL!!

Thank you so much for your advice. Mom is itching to leave the rabbit hutch. I'm hoping to make an enclosure off the hutch so the babies are just a bit bigger. I'll be having foot surgery in three weeks so I won't be able to do much. I hate having this time crunch and having to decide what to do and what to set aside for later.

I am still cognizant of where I got the birds, well most of them, most the time.

I thought triplell got them from you, making them your line. I have seen her place and did not see an signs of a dark laboratory where she could splice Road Runner genes onto the chickens DNA. Now I know you are down there next door to the Mayo Clinic and we know what kind of stuff they do there...

I need coffee.. Be back to really type soon.

Isn't that the truth about what to do and what can wait. That is our life here. I have so, so many things I THINK can get done but then I realize I can't do it on my own or the job takes way longer than I thought it should so there I am trying to figure out what has to, has to get done and what can wait until fall or winter. Some days its over whelming!! Make sure what ever space you make it is big enough and secure! Especially if they are going to stay where you put them for awhile try to figure out how much room they will need. Oh, and a side thought. Again, I have never had a broody hatch out, so I only hear things but my sister in laws mama hen left her chicks at 4 weeks and went back to the flock. Not sure when your broody might decide its time, but something to consider.
