1000

I am gonna try one last time and to craigslist they go. Anyone interested in ducklings??

So cute! What kind are they? I wish I could...but nine chickens, seven quail and eight pigeons plus ducks wouldn't be a good idea in town.

Thought I would 'show' you what I have going on at my place

Broody Rouen duck. She has her hackles up and was hissing at me. We gave her 4 eggs to sit on. Hope that keeps her happy!

Here are the 2 turkeys. The one on the left is the one that was attacked. His entire tail and backside feathers are missing. He has a limp today also.

The injured one jumping down from the brooder coop. He was walking around the yard gingerly but still more than I expected from him. He even went over and checked out the kittens and their cat food. Nothing pleases my birds more than eating all the cat food! Must be the protein or something in it.

He looks OK Rhetts, as long as he does not get an infection he should be fine.

Your duck has the normal "stay away or I will eat you" look of a broody...

This was posted on another thread I found it interesting and the same thing we had talked about. NOW Please remember the source is untested so it could be bunk...

I am glad to hear you say that Ralphie! And yes, that duck is behaving in a very not nice manner. She acts like she will rip your arm off if you get close!
Interesting article too.

Well I gave my broody duck 16 chicken eggs. Can ducks hatch chickens?? If a chicken can hatch a duck why cant a duck hatch chickens. I guess we will see in 21 days. I only had 5 duck eggs and hate setting small numbers so I gave her the chicken eggs instead. I will have to put a fence around the water so the chicks don't drown. That would be bad...

Are you passing chicken math classes in school?

You need to get rid of some birds because you have too many. then you have a broody duckette and instead of giving her 5 eggs you give her 16, meaning you will have more chickens to cut back on.....

I like the way you think,

Thank u Ralph. I just built a 5x5 coop in 3 days almost by myself so I can keep enough housing space fast enough. I set the max amount of eggs under all broodies

My last week in review. Gill's comb is starting to look pretty respectable, I shot another coon and it was a 30lbs sow, and my biggest SLW went broody yesterday in the same nest box as my smallest little bantam hen.
