Minnesota!

But most likely they are just weird. They do live in the city you know. It is everything I can do to stop them from getting tattoos. Really.

Just had a vision of a hipster chicken. Something like this

Ralphie why is your mom taking care of the birds?? Is your DW going with you to the center of the universe?? Some quality time away from the parents isn't it?

My DW wife is going with me. I am hoping I hid all the signs of immoral illicit behavior at the cabin....

Actually our son, asked it he could go to the cabin, and I told him sure he does not have to ask, but he did. Then I found out it was because he had misplaced his key!

They asked if we would like to go up there with them and I, of course, agreed. He told me today my Daughter and her family are going up too, I am looking forward to fishing with the grand daughters.

My Mom said she did not want to go as she had other things planned, she always has things planned....

I would have gotten a young neighbor kid ( ok 35-40 but you know) to watch the birds had she wanted to go.

The neighbor "kids' wife brought her 2 year old over tonight and he threw a minor fuss over having to go home, he wanted to stay with JJ... They are really nice people even if they did move here from Blue Earth...

I am cutting back to 2 bantam breeds, one variety (color) of each and 4 Large Fowl.  I breed to the APA Standard on those, then I may Easter Eggers too using a variety of hens and Ameraucana roosters.
Sorry, had to chuckle at the generalization of the EEs.  I don't think you can just blanket them with a certain temperament since they are mutts, and you get what you get.  I have some that are not flighty and I have had some that if you look at them they screech and run.  I think it depends on what goes into them.

The Large breeds I have are Buckeyes, New Hampshire, Welsummer and I will likely keep the Black Ameraucanas around if I can find a good rooster for them.  I might hold back a small pen of the Cochins too.  I like some of the older ones I see growing out, so those I will wait and see a while longer then decided.  Plus, I hate letting go of the roosters I have had for a couple of years, I am kind of attached to them.  The younger ones got sold except all the cockerels.

It more has to do with the reading I've done about them. And the internet is filled with self-proclaimed experts, presen't company excluded, of course ;-).

I'm enjoying my new adventure and chickens have to be the coolest animals to keep.

I even changed my iPhone name to ol' chicken lady, every time Siri and I have a chat that's what he calls me!

Siri is not a man! She is a she...

It was a free range organic Turkey. But I guess in a way that may seem like a commercial turkey to someone who is able to raise them.
That sounds fantastic. I will be trying it soon and reporting back.

Wow. How great is that!! beautiful!

Those are really nice looking! The DW wants a polish next time. But I am keeping a eye out. Thinking I will be looking up
  • Minniechickmama when that time comes. I do need them bred for behaviour as well because they are most definitely pets in our case.
What a rollercoaster! Hope all goes well. I would be really surprised if it was AI. With this weather it wasn't supposed to surface for a while. Also I heard people with BYC haven't had any real problems. Am I wrong?
My experience with Polish, they are batcrap crazy, except some of the females once they get their crest. of course, they can't see where they are going and so how would they know to run? Never, ever will I have those again. Pretty much if they lay white eggs, you can expect batcrap crazy birds.

BUT,,BUT..BUT,, by this logic my guineas should be laying BRIGHT BRIGHT WHITE eggs..

My smallest, named Dumpling is the lowest in the pecking order and the seem to like to peek at her eyes. Today one of her eyes was stuck shut. I got it open and put ointment on it till it gets better. This has been ongoing since I have had them.
Edited because I misread the original. I am wearing my old glasses right now since my correct prescription ones are upstairs and i don't feel like going to get them. That is my story and I am sticking to it!

Ralphie, I never said white eggers were the only nutjob fowl, just that they are reliably batcrap crazy.

I currently have hatchery bred polish. The males are insane. They run all over the place taking on the biggest roos and then fall off the hens trying to mate them because the hens are 2.5 times their size. Quite the sight in my coop these days. HA HA The hen on the other hand is much more docile and not as crazy. Of course the other chickens picked her crest and tail off so she is hairless and rump-less. Another sight to see. But I have hopes that she will look nice once that grows in. I did get 2 more pullet polish that are 5 weeks old. They seem OK for now although one has been named Baldy. You can figure out why.

Ralphie-sounds like you have a fantastic weekend ahead of you. How lovely! Slightly envious if I can say so. Hope nothing too serious happens at home with your mom taking care of the birds unsupervised. Perhaps you can have you neighbor show up from time to time randomly for things to borrow or something just to keep an eye on things.

Have fun with your grandkids!!

We call them lumber sexuals. ;)
