May be able to get pics of the other two roo's tomorrow.

What breeds?
I could only hope my EE girls that are 6 weeks look 1/2 as pretty as your roo. There is one that catches my eye every time I look in there. I hope she continues with the coloring she has. It seems to have a tish of blue or gray to her. And she is lighter colored not red or orange. Light buff and blue gray. Its very interesting!! Of course I know that I can't count on anything with EEs. LOL. Can't wait to see your others!

That's odd KlopKlop. It's usually the go to medicine for open wounds on the farm. Can't believe those two places didn't have it! Crazy!

Haha Minnie! Well I HAD to wash off the tender quick because it contains PEG. Polyethylene glycol. The last time I left some tender quick on the bird we were running to the toilet every 30 seconds. PEG is active ingredient in miralax, by the way. But tender quick makes a tasty smoked bird. Everybody gobbled it up and have told me that's the way they want chicken from now on. Now if I did a straight salt sugar brine I doubt I'd rinse.

Well, while you all were busy posting 119 posts in the last two days, i've been still slaving away on the footings for my expanded run. Should go from 10.5x6.5 to 21x10.5 Taking me quite a while, the ground is uneven, so on about half I have two cinder blocks stacked, then a 4x8x16 on top of that. I hope to be done by the beginning of winter. Kinda regret telling DH I would do all the block work

to get him on board and allow me to spend money on a bigger run.

but here is a progress photo or two:

Don't mind the fence, had to move it out of the way...

Stupid clay and boulders

it will more than double the size of the run, yey!
In the winter i'll be putting greenhouse panels around the whole run so they can use the whole run, like the photos of my current winter run set up in my "My coop" photos.

One of my SLW's started molting a couple weeks ago, she started laying this week again. I didn't think she would lay for quite a while from now. But, got 5 eggs out of 5 chickens in the last few days. Her feathers are coming in pretty good as well.

I'm going to have to google an aioli recipe...Blanch Ranch. Unless your willing to share your chefly recipe with me. All this talk of smoking and rubbing and injecting chicken or turkey. I put some morten's tender quick on some chicken thigh/leg quarters. Then rinse off when I get home... And Am going to tuck pats of butter & thyme under the skin and slow smoke on the weber with some maple sticks. Can hardly wait!
Simple. You emulsify a egg yolk and a bit of mustard in a blender with a touch of lemon and slowly add olive oil (just regular olive oil, no virgins here. Some people just use veggie oil). Add water so it doesn't get too thick and break. Or. Use mayonnaise. Add fresh garlic Rosemary and Basil with a touch of cayenne. All done. Very simple. That is one of my favorite ways of doing it. Do what you think will taste good of course.

Quote: A guilty pleasure of mine as well. Just don't tell anyone.
