Minnesota!

This thaw was too short spring is not to far ahead of us now. Just think we now have Febuary - the coldest month then March- the snowest month then WONDERFUL April a mix of everything!!!! And the start of Spring, time of hatching and the great planting season starts too.

I am very thankful that the snow didn't all melt. At least the septic system hopefully wont freeze now.

I'm mostly worried about the wind. I'll just wait and see what happens

the chickns will probably stay inside the coop. I usually open the pop door every morning but we'll have to wait and see. I just wish I didn't have to go to work, would rather be here to see how they do and what I can do to help but....? Extra food for sure...
What are you doing?

No extra heat here but for their water. How ever they will get scratch and extra oats twice a day for warmth. They will also be getting a warm mash twice a day.

I thought I'd up the watts on the red light I keep on in their coop - from 25 watts to 60. Other than that, I'll let them have oatmeal a couple times a day and extra scratch. I don't know what to expect - this is my first winter with chickens. They seem to do just fine even into the teens, so I think they will do alright. We had a frostbite problem already and I had to cut some extra vents in their coop, which helped, but of course now I am paranoid about the wind getting in there. I feel like I worry about my hens more than my children. lol
