Minnesota!

Our power has been out since 5 this am. I brought all of the chicks in to try to keep th warm, but my incubator eggs are toast. Soooo sad.
Don't give up on the incubator. Bring it to your warmest room and wrap it in a blanket. If you have any of the hand/foot warmer, you can shake one of those up and stick in there for some heat. It takes quite a lot for the internal heat of the egg to go down. Many can survive, but the hatch date may be exteneded. I've had this happen to me with my incubator light burning out and we hadn't been home for over a day. The eggs were cold to the touch, but at least 1/2 hatched.

Oh no!
Karla, I am so sorry! I hope that you still get something, like the others said. You never know, nature produces some amazing things under some very undesirable circumstances. This storm is not one of those things! I cannot believe this!

Our power is back! I wrapped the incubators in towels so hopefully they will be ok. I just used my last foot warmers just recently but thats a great idea. I could see some of their little feet up against the shell last night. One is on day 15 & the other day 8. Fingers and toes crossed.

The ones on day 15 should be ok. It's a bit more risky for the ones on day 8.

I have a request to you folks near Minneapolis. I have a teacher in the Twin Cities looking for some chicks and ducklings to use in the class to teach some kindergarteners about animal life. I am setting her up with some chicks. Does anyone out there have a few ducklings that she could get cheap or free? It is a worthy cause, if you ask me and I always help out teachers who want to use poultry to teach kids with. If you have something you want to help her with, send me a PM, please.
Thanks.
Theri

Question for you guys! My pair of call ducks are a year old! Do they still need a heat lamp? My chicks use two heat lamps and if I plug the duck one in the power goes out.

No, if your ducks are a year old they don't need a heat lamp. I have calls that 10 months old and did not have a heat lamp at all this winter. Once they get feathers they don't need any type of supplemental heat.

Ok! Thanks! I got them as a scholarship from the APWS! They came from Kentucky, so they had a heat lamp all winter and tonight it's supposed to get to 17 degrees tonight. Do I dare chance it?
