I think I figured it out.

I ran out of quarantine spots, so I put them in the old farm house. There's quite a bit of mold in the old farm house which may have caused the wheezing. I just moved them to the garage. Hopefully they'll be ok; it was only a couple of days.

I just lost 5 out of 6 of my girls from a dog that got into my back yard. this just happened less than an hour ago. 1 is missing and found 1 dead and had to put down 3 (my god that is tough). now i have 1 black silkie that i think is fine , she is broody and probably in shock, but no bite marks that i can see. I am not going to have her alone in the coop and having her all alone isnt the best anyway. I am wondering if anybody would like to have for free my sweetest little girl. she has been raised organically and free ranges everyday. I just want her to have a good life. I even have layer food still. I am going to try this again in the spring.

I would love to have her but I'm in Brainerd. Rarely do I get that far south. I hope someone comes to her rescue. I am so sorry for your loss. It is never easy to loose them. Last June I lost 29 ducks and some chicks to skunks and something else. I went from 45 ducks to 14 all in one night. If you know who's dog it is then you can go after them for damages.

the dog had tags and we did call. the guy was very sympathetic and was very understanding with compensation. we just buried them out back. sad. But, in cleaning up the mess we found the missing silkie behind a shed in top of bags of hay. she is safe and unharmed. so, we have both silkies . Could I keep them in the coop over winter by themselves or should i give them away or maybe get some more birds. Thinking about warmth in numbers.

Oh no! That's terrible about the attack, but I'm glad you found the missing one.

Could you put up some kind of divider in your coop to make it cozier for two?

The two silkies would be happy together and if you have some good thick bedding they should be able to keep each other warm enough this winter. I'm glad you were able to find the missing one. So sorry about the others.

If you decide not to keep your silkies, I would be willing to take them. I have a bantam only coop with cochins, faverolles, orpingtons and cochin/silkie mixes. There is only one rooster in that coop and he's a little brown red Cochin. Very sweet to the ladies.
