This is very likely the most "Active" thread on Backyard Chickens. In one day I usually have lots of reading to catch up with here!!

I don't know if it's the most active...but there is always quality to the MN thread. I've been on crazy active threads and one cannot keep up at all.

Minnie: Your fruit tree project sounds divine!

Oh do we need this rain! It was pouring cats and dogs last night here. Thought I might hydroplane on the way home from my parent's house. But it's all good. I'd rather have rain than a drought. The lakes are low up here and we need this push of moisture. Chickens like to come on my covered porch though to get out of the rain....and then I'm the porch sweeper. Ack.

Loving the 2 CCL's .. They each are giving me an egg everyday about. And they've totally integrated into the flock. Free ranging like pros on the property--they camouflage beautifully in the woods. Loving the blue in the egg cartons again.

We r going to try find some hops plants for our run now.

We went mushroom hunting today and didn't find a thing. What do they grow by??

This is an active thread, but more importantly it is filed with friendly chatty people, and helpful people, I find it hard to believe in less than a year on this site. I have chickens from 3 members of this thread.

The other thing I like he is no one is judgmental, and everyone is helpful. While some here breed to SOP they do not belittle us that do not. There is one thread I go on and I am afraid to even show a picture of my chicks for fear some one will scream at me to cull it because it is not good breeding material. Not a comfy place to hang out like this is.

This and the CX thread is were I enjoy a morning coffee or an evenings Mike's hard lemonade.


EJB. I think Ole is a pure Araucana like the woman you got him from said, he has no tail so he must be. I read about them and they have no tail. I am not sure if his bloody stump qualifies for a tail. He is so persistent, He jumped a hen and Ernie knocked him off, he ran away to other bunch of chickens and did the mating dance and grabbed a hen, and Ed knocked him off. I think he has been into the hops.



Speaking of Hops, Holms I think you have to be 21 to have hops in your possession...

And finally I got my first hairy legged egg today, from either Thelma or Louise, not sure which. Matter of fact, I have not decided which is Thelma or which is Louise. It is hard to tell them apart.


I am sorry if I seem disjointed while I write this BC ( the other BC) is sitting on the wire staring at me and it makes me nervous.

I am glad to hear this, I put 34 eggs in the hatcher today, I was very disappoint with the way they looked. I do not think any of the guinea eggs are viable and only a few turkey eggs are. Hopefully I will get more creamettes this week.

And completely off the chicken track, I took this picture this evening at my feeders, I was so impressed, 5 grosbeaks, a cardinal, a goldfinch and an indigo bunting all at the same time.

Well, they were 7 weeks and 3 days old. We tried to weigh a few of them live last week. Our postal scale wouldn't register that high. Our bathroom scale wouldn't register that low. So above five pounds, but below 10??? I might try to weigh one again later just out of curiosity, but I expect the same results.
