I would make a thing she cant get up on or over but the others can that way u can moniter feed intake. Like make a 1 foot tall wall thing and that would keep her out.

Which actually shouldn't be hard to do since she not as mobile as the others.
The feed container is currently suspended from the ceiling.

Good morning! Anyone know of a place near the metro, preferably south metro, who would process some of my hens? I've decided to cull one of my year old hens (for stew) and three of my 3 month girls for frying. Before I do, let me tell you the breeds and those of you who know more about chickens than I ever will can tell me if it's a good idea. The older hen is one of my BA's, and I'm thinking I'll process one of my Barred's, a RIR, and a SLW. Thoughts?

I have 10 girls which is more than I expected or really wanted to be honest. I over ordered this spring thinking I would lose a few but they all survived and I've noticed a drop in production from my laying hens and I simply don't think my coop is large enough for 10.

I'm struggling with this decision somewhat but what helps me is knowing that we'll be eating what we've organically "grown". What doesn't help me, however, is knowing we're eating what we've named. Yep; just when I think I could be a farmer I quickly realize that no, I can't.

Yeah, I understand. My daughter named some of our chickens. But I was clear to myself that they would be slaughtered at some point.

Unfortunately I don't know of any places. We plan do take care of it ourselves.

Limiting feed would be the toughest part. She is with the rest of the crew and would be isolated. I know she eats and eats. Amazing.

Hi all! I moved back to MN from MT (yep, with my flock

) last year. Since then, I've lost a couple hens and am looking to set my broody on some eggs and add some more ladies to my flock. Specifically, olive eggers and faverolles (and maybe some BCMs). Any reputable breeders in the general twin cities area (I'll drive up to 100 miles for good eggs)? Craigslist has hatching eggs, but most of the stock out there seems to be from hatcheries rather than breeders; while I love my hatchery birds, those from good breeders tend to lay way longer and be a lot hardier, IMO.

I've been looking at the egg auctions on BYC, but since I'm looking to get multiple breeds I worry about what the transport will do to the hatch-rate. Plus I love going local and forming a relationship with good local breeder. I found an awesome one via the MT BYC forum years ago and got some amazing birds. So I thought I'd give it another go.

Welcome back to Minnesota! I think a lot people on this thread have gotten their eggs or chicks from @Minniechickmama ! She's down by Zumbrota I think? I got eggs from her this spring, great birds and even better customer service! I'm not sure if she has any of the breeds you're looking for, and her birds all get kicked out to pasture in the summer so you'd probably only be able to get mixes from her right now. I got EEs, Buckeyes and Welsummers from her. I'm sure she'll see this post and chime in on what's what though

I got a blue ribbon for my 6 duck eggs at 4H, and a blue for my 1 dozen other colored chicken eggs, i haven't found out if i got an awards like Superior Exhibit or Reserved Champion. Will find out tomorrow morning

TY for asking! Knock on wood, but no one is showing any signs of illness at this time. Maybe it was the heat and humidity?

Welcome! I'm sure Minne will chime in at some point. She did tell me she had Olive Eggers available, but that was Spring and I thought I read that she only hatches or sells eggs in Spring???
