I don't know if it will help, but I read somewhere that a little cider vinegar acts almost like a antibiotic for chickens. I will add a splash for a gallon. I know. Very scientific measurements. But then again I know nothing about this compared to any of you.

I was told not to use vinegar of any kind with waterfowl. It can cause sour crop which u dont want to deal with.

Our water is VERY hard. The bathtub is deep orange despite my very best efforts. Yes, we do have a water filter, but not a softener. Outside spigot, as far as I know does not have a filter. What would that look like? Would that make much of a difference to make it worth putting on?

A softener will not work. I use to own the motel on the corner of I35 and hwy 210 across from the black bear casino. We had terrible water there. I had a huge softener from Culligan and I still fought the iron in the water. I ended up getting "iron filters" from Hague that did the trick and made my water usable. They were huge 200 gallon tanks of resin that someone filtered it. (It was like magic to me) but they cost about 3 grand and that was 20 years ago.

So I doubt it is worth it. I have the same iron problem at my cabin in Togo, you would think the center of the universe would have better water but it does not. I just live with it there. it is not worth the expense and I do not mind the taste of iron in my water.

You assume that we all have the fancy new technology. I for one am stuck in the stone age. I have no devices (by choice) except my PC at home and a cell phone that only makes phone calls and texts. Can you believe it?!?! The horror of not having Internet at all times seems almost barbaric!

Actually I only carry my IPhone when I go some where, and then I leave it in the car/truck most the time. BUT I do read BYC when I am out and about. However, when I am in Togo I have no internet or phone. Again you would think the center of the universe would have phone service/cell service, it does not. I have to go to a Major city in the area, like Effie, Cook or Nashwauk to get service.

I am guessing the reason so many things are missing from Togo is because of it's location to God, I am fairly sure that is where he started to universe and he hangs out there because it is almost heaven there....Which causes interference with these man made devices....

Which is why you read everything on here and disregard 99% as BS....





My last Chicken hatch is under way, I have one cute little creamette, and it's a girl! 4 more eggs to go. I don't even see any pips on them so who knows, I might be at 20% again, which would be par for the course this year.


Next week my last guineas hatch and I am done except for what the birds bring me. (more guineas, just what I need.) sarcasm implied..

BTW it is only juvvys there... and rumor has it the camp is closing.

So get this Ralphie, my brother is a CO at Stillwater, he was offered a job at Togo and turned it down because he didn't want to live "in the middle of nowhere"!! So I guess he'd rather keep babysitting the murderers and rapists than be a co who gets to hang out in the woods all day and live in close proximity to that many awesome walleye lakes.

So get this Ralphie, my brother is a CO at Stillwater, he was offered a job at Togo and turned it down because he didn't want to live "in the middle of nowhere"!! So I guess he'd rather keep babysitting the murderers and rapists than be a co who gets to hang out in the woods all day and live in close proximity to that many awesome walleye lakes.

'There is obviously something wrong with him. The only reason I am not there full time is my DW refuses to move there, and I know she is not right in the head, after all she married me...

I am down right miserable right now. Up late (very late) in fact Ralphie was probably getting up for the day when I was going to bed. I had way too many teas of the long island variety. Then I could not sleep worth poo so I got up and have been up since. Now there is a ton of hard work to do outside in the heat and humidity and I feel like crap. What the heck was I thinking? I am getting too old for hangovers!
