Sorry to hear about your MIA.

I think Ethel lost a poult last night. She has three this morning. I let her out of her fence on Saturday. Now I have to consider forcing her back in. She seems so much happier outside free ranging, but I hate to lose her babies. She has a bronze and a black both of which are "rare" here. I have no other bronze and never have had one hatched. So I am leaning towards locking them up again.

I moved the blue with the chicks into a fence, not covered, but a pen. She is in the pen I let the CX's in to "free range". It is a good compromise with her.

Hopefully she found a safe roost somewhere and comes home today.

That is exactly what I am hoping for my lost poult. I am afraid my DW will be saying a ton of " I told you so" when she finds out one is gone. She was kinda adamant (read PO'd) at me for letting them out.

A few photos of Grumpy Girl. She is still not the most pleasant female to be around but has lots of personal space to be grumpy in.

Anyone think she might be a rooster?
 
What would everyone rather have, a flock of one or two or more "pure" breeds of chickens or a bunch of mixed breed?

Pure roosters or not?

I have mixed breed/ barnyard mixes with a few pure ( creamettes, BA, White rock, Delaware (maybe if she returns) and RIR, hens)

I have 3 roosters all "pure". Another reason "ole" had to go to Brook Park to live, (and he just never got along with my other roosters).

I currently have a flock of 3 pure breeds. (Br,Rir, BO) 16 total With the exception of my rooster. But, if I could do it again I think I would like a mixed flock.

I like a mix, although it could get complicated with any breeding plans.
