Minnesota!

I have to agree, the postings turned out well,

You made it easy to follow.

I want to make mine taller than those you show, So I am going to stick with your first ones, made out of the panels. I went to TSC in Elk River and looked at panel prices they were only 20 bucks. Which mean I can get a bachelor pad for under a $100. I like that idea.

The roosters will soon be roomies!

I am going to find out. I have a large covered pen, It is 25x50 or close to it. I am going to put the "coop" next to the fence and put them inside. They will either get along or end up in small little cells. The three roosters I have I like and I want to keep for breeding.

I have Ed the partridge chanticleer I got from EJB, EJB kind of threw him in with Ole when I got Ole, I have to tell you that was a winner deal for me. He is an unbelievable rooster! He is large and protective and I know I go on and on about him. However, I am getting ready to lock the girls up for a while. So he needs a place to live.

I have Ray, my creamette daddy. He is not a "likable" rooster like Ed is, BUt he is eye candy and some of his babies are absolutely beautiful. I want to keep his genes for at least another generation or two. I got him from Triplell.

Then I have Ernie, he is a very likable rooster and good with the girls too. Ed and him tolerate each other, and he throws some nice chicks. He is a BA, I got him from Hoover hatchery so he is the rare good hatchery rooster, but Minnie told me his tail is too high, I can live with that as I am not showing. I just like him and the looks of his "pure" babies. I am finding my BA's are my good mothers, besides I like the shiny black birds.

I am going to be adding roosters to the Bachelor pad as time goes on and I pull the young ones out of my flock. I will be keeping a back up Creamette rooster or two, Ray's sons. The other roosters will be hitting the road and moving to a nice freezer camp in St Paul eventually. I might keep a good BA rooster as a back up also, if I have one right now it looks doubtful., or I might try to find one from someone that has one on here, non-hatchery would be nice.

I will be keeping my Creamette roosters for a while until I see what I have for hens. I would like to over winter 6-8 creamette hens as that will give me more than enough eggs for next years hatch. Then I will sell off the rest and I will need roosters to make pairs or trios.

I might keep a Creamette rooster or use my Back up one to keep the blue egg gene alive in my EE.

Lots of plans, now to see if they come true. So to answer your question again, I hope they get along or I am SOOL,

Do mature roosters do ok in a pen? Is there no fighting if there are no ladies?

We have about five roosters together right now. The oldest is six months old

Zeus.

As long as no one challenges him we have peace. But they have plenty of room.

File this under the strange request for the day...

My white rock, "the Hussy" has been sitting on a stolen nest for quite awhile. It appears all the eggs are rotten. He nest sticks so bad, I am going to need rubber gloves to handle her. Could be she has turned to Meth.

Anyways, she is one of my favorite birds and I hate to disappoint her, so I was wondering if anyone has Babies hatching in next few days or eggs close to hatching that I could buy to slip under her. I really do not care about species, as long as she thinks she is a mother. Maybe it would end some of her wild night life if she has kids and settles down.

Having kids doesn't always settle moms down ;-).
Wish I could help.

I do have some eggs that are just about ready to hatch or will be hatching in the next couple of days. Biggest obstacle is we are not exactly near you (just south of Duluth near Jay Cooke).

Some days I like to daydream about quitting my job and just making a simple living on my farm instead of sitting in a cubicle all day. I like my job, but still....

Alas, I'm too young and owe too much money to 'the man'...
