Minnesota!

There is also a pure black egg. I am not sure of the breed. Ayam Cemani Chicken, had to go look it up. I think greenfire had them listed at 199 dollars per chick.

That is sort of a bargain when compared to the what is have heard about someone's chickens somewhere here on BYC. I am not going to name names.

I think the "they lay black eggs" is a marketing scheme. The Cemani actually lays a white or cream colored egg. I don't know where or how the black egg thing came about, but it doesn't hold true.

Personally, I am completely blown away that anyone would pay the prices they do for Greenfire's stock. It is ridiculous at the least. They started by selling those Cemanis at $2500 per pair. Those chicks are unsexed also at $200 each. If fools and their money want to part of paying those prices, then how sad it is. They are still just chickens. I can't imagine they adapt well to northern climates as they originated from the jungles of Malaysia.

I had to buy eggs, the old girls are slowing way down and the new girls havn't started laying yet

My little cheeser is loving the St. Croix

I'm trying to convince DW that our next trip I will bring our favorite hen, Lucille. The signs say 'all domestic pets must be leashed'. That doesn't seem to exclude hens to me :) She would mind a leg string and think of the looks we would get :)

It only took about 3 days of me physically moving my pullets onto the roost each night to get them to roost there (14 weeks old) and each night there was fewer pullet to move and more on the roost
I was constantly kicking them out of the nest boxes but as soon as I turned my back they would go right back to it. Sometimes I would just stand in the coop waiting and they waited for me to leave. Silly birds. :) I finally resorted to physically blocking it off completely all night long. Daytime I can't do anything.
