Anybody compost their chicken litter? I have a half***** "compost" pile back in the woods. I dug through it this morning and it has heat so I guess its working... I dont spray water or nothing on it, or turn it, its just a pile lol like I said half*****. Does anyone have a more scientific approach to it? The idea to use my own compost on my garden interests me.

Feather-legged EE. I still wonder about the gender of this one. Only thing that makes me wonder are the curved tail feathers.

Did we call 3/1 early on? If so, who can complain about 75% layers?! They look fantastic! I hope they give up the eggs soon!

I forget the ratio of brown to green, but you should add green clippings, then turn it every couple of weeks. Ours is mostly chicken poop with shavings, then we dump grass in all summer and mix it. Plus, that is where any dead chickens and old eggs go. We also add the rabbit poop with shavings, which the rabbit droppings don't really need to be composted, but rather than just dumping it where we don't need it yet, it goes in. Turning consists of moving the pile north about 10-feet each turn. Our pile is about 12' wide by 150' long. By the time it gets up to the north end it is ready to go where we want it for plants and trees.
 
Have any of you looked at next week's forecast? I am going to be relieved for many reasons, but I just looked at my meatballs and thought of another...,
I don't know if they would make it through their last week with temps like these.
 
I thought it was funny after I learned on here what the heck silage is, I heard on the radio a farm update and the guy was talking about starting to make silage and his moisture was all off so they had to stop and wait. Said they get the heaviest tractors they have to roll over it to pack it down and get the air out.
