The BA's are one of my favorites too. They are not overly friendly (which has more to do with how I raise them than breed). I just like them and they make great mothers. I still have the one hanging with her guinea babies all day long. After nearly 3 weeks in lock down in the winter coop, she went back to her guinea "chicks" as soon as she got out.

Black Sex Link. Mine have a slight reddish tint to them and do not have the "sheen" the BA's have and lack the white toenails.

Hey y'all

Well so far she is staying broody - just raided nest once this morning on purpose - got 4 more; went out during lunch break to add a layer of security over the crate and she went berserk so i lifted crate to keep her from killing herself. grabbed 2 more that time. There's another one almost hatched out.

One of the 4 this morning - looks like she either kicked it away or it pulled away from egg and left some fuzzy off it's hip there. I dabbed it with Blue Kote but otherwise it's fine.

They are soooooooo tiny!!!

Been trying to figure out her breed. She's one of the former 4H crew. Fluffy bottom, dark legs with a few feathers on them.

Crossbreed if she has feathered legs. She appears to look like an Australorp, but they wouldn't have feathers.

The feathered legs knock it out of the pure category since the only breed even remotely looking like that with FL is a Langshan, and it is a pretty rare breed in these parts and her build is wrong.
BSL SHOULD have the color leakage around the neck, Ralphie, it is the result of that color cross to make them She is a brown egg layer though, right? And if she fulfills her purpose in keeping her, it doesn't really matter what she is.

Sometimes a purebred bird can have what is called 'stubs', or unwanted feathers coming out on the legs, but they are not really full feathers, just short ones as the label implies. Once in a while a bird can have little downy feathers in the webbing on their toes and those are also referred to as stubs.

DUH.. Good catch on the feathered legs. I missed that and read few as no feathers on the leg..

I did not know all BSL had that leakage. Good to know. I thought it was just in my hatchery ones. I am down to about a half a shot of vodka in my thimble with this tidbit!

I happen to know where you can get around 16 more, really cheap! I actually enjoy their antics, but they are so stupid they play chicken with trucks on the centerline of the road here and are losing.
