Minnesota!

I have to come back to these two girls.
They look so much like my young BA's it is amazing. They have me questioning whether mine are BA's. The mother's of mine are not a large chickens. Not like a Rainbow. They have not grown in a year and they are 18 months old.

How big do the JG get? If it takes them so long to fully grow are they edible as anything besides stewing hens? Is the meat tough? DO they go broody? Are they good layers? Are they a good Minnesota bird?

BTW Scandia I really like the way they look.

JGs do well in MN, but you still have the same concerns as with any single comb breed. They grow bones the first year and meat after than, and like Scandia said, they really aren't mature until about 18-months. They have a very gently temperament and are really lovely birds. I would have kept mine except being that I breed to show standard, the ones I had just didn't come close enough to breed with. I had White and Black both. Loved the hens, and the roosters I had were just wonderful and laid back. Their only fault, they were too laid back and everyone else beat them up. The same happened with my Standard Faverolles.

I have 2 lbs of Chesnok Red that I am going to plant. I am planning to plant this weekend ('just about' is relative I guess

) but maybe I will wait one more week.

I am not saying not to, just that it IS an "about" timing thing. Mulch it good with straw or something similar that will insulate it and water it good so the roots start taking hold before the ground freezes.

You know what I love about gardening? When I do things like digging potatoes or digging garlic, and I feel like a kid at Christmas! Same with when we grow Indian Corn and open it. I LOVE IT!

@Cyrus83 Here you go.

I chucked that $8.50 beer at him...but I had to go pick it up because he hit a homerun at the end of the game...and plus I didn't want to go downtown.

Fun game and the seats were fantastic! Dugout seats behind 3rd base. A good but long day. We took the light rail from Big Lake and boy is that ever slick! No driving, parking then walking. Everything is just completely easy with that. Left home at 6:30AM, Back in the driveway at 9:30PM. *Yawn.**
DS caught a foul ball and almost a 2nd. I think we were on TV a couple times. There was no batting practice so no autographs. But we did get T.C.'s.

I get what you're saying about Pheasants. Personally I prefer a grouse over a pheasant. But They do make for fun hunting. He just wants Minnesota like his beloved South Dakota. ;)

JG's are neat looking. I think though...I like my standards. No bantams, no giants. LOL.
Sounds like Mauer, teams up by six runs and he hits a home run and everyone bows down to him. good old 6-4-3 Mauer. But the Pohlad's are happy owning a loser team as long as baby Jesus Mauer jerseys keep flying off the shelves.

I don't even like to let a sip spill off of those spendy beers! It's good to see that Mauer did something....I love to hate him. DH and I went to a concert at Target Field in July, beers were $14 for a tall boy. OUCH!

I know, where is everyone?

Anywhoo, here are some photos of the inside of the new run, just to post something of course

.

I left the hardware cloth around the original run and made a door so that I can separate birds, and new birds when needed.

@Cluckies , Can I move in? I love it! I "adopted" two new birds and will be picking them up soon - I wish I had a nice separation like that. I don't know who is going to be more stressed out.....me, the new birds, or my current flock of girls.

He is Cyrus. But our Dog is too young to go out. She's still a nut can. And he loves working with the dogs. He's got the boy though...and he enjoys watching him shoot. Pretty proud of him. He actually enjoys the later season alot...when the Northerns are coming down out of Canada. And Halloween they'll do their Dakota trip. That's what he's really looking forward to.

Oh @MinnesotaNice I hear you on the price of that beer. Trust me when I tell you every drop was licked out of the cans. $8.50 was nuts for a beer. I have to say they ticket prices for (normal people seats) are not too bad. But they get you on the drinks and food. I bought the kids 2 mountain dews. $5/ pop. Madness.
