I have to come back to these two girls.
They look so much like my young BA's it is amazing. They have me questioning whether mine are BA's. The mother's of mine are not a large chickens. Not like a Rainbow. They have not grown in a year and they are 18 months old.
How big do the JG get? If it takes them so long to fully grow are they edible as anything besides stewing hens? Is the meat tough? DO they go broody? Are they good layers? Are they a good Minnesota bird?
BTW Scandia I really like the way they look.
JGs do well in MN, but you still have the same concerns as with any single comb breed. They grow bones the first year and meat after than, and like Scandia said, they really aren't mature until about 18-months. They have a very gently temperament and are really lovely birds. I would have kept mine except being that I breed to show standard, the ones I had just didn't come close enough to breed with. I had White and Black both. Loved the hens, and the roosters I had were just wonderful and laid back. Their only fault, they were too laid back and everyone else beat them up. The same happened with my Standard Faverolles.
