Minnesota!

I forgot to mention this. This afternoon I was setting the stuff up for tomorrow and I heard this blood curdling howl, it sounded like a dog had a piano fall on his head, its was yelping and just terrible. I went to see what it was, it came from in the shed. I figured I would be making a trip to the vet.

I didn't see anything in the shed except a few chickens an Junior. The Junior looked at me and made that sound. He was trying to crow. I am thinking Junior should give up crowing. It was so funny and he was so proud of himself. I think it was his first crow.

He also tried to make babies with his sister today. She would have none of it. I notice her comb is extremely red and getting larger. I did not think CX's would lay in the fall of the year they hatched. Does anyone know?

She figures the Mike's isn't taking you down fast enough for her to collect on that huge insurance policy she took out on ya!

Hahaha!

We call that the Life Insurance Lottery. I plan to win it.

I have fed the last supper. And as tradition dictates I removed the feed and feeders when the last bird went into the pen. I got some nasty looks and a few complaints for removing the food. They will forget all about it by tomorrow night.

I set up a new tractor and brooder for Bert Junior and his girls to go into tomorrow during the camper round up. It's kind of sad right now knowing I will not see a bunch of white chickens running around the yard until next summer.

I think I am ready for the big day, I got the trailers in place, the stock tank filled with water, the hanging ladder is ready, The plucker is on the first barrel, and I sharpened the axe. My DW is getting more lemonade and a little beer. BlanchRanch if you want that dirty dark muddy horrible foul tasting beer, you better bring your own.

I would be sad too. I would love to raise some meat birds, but don't know if I have it in me to dispatch them.

ok, just a remnder on camp day....pictures! blanch that migh be your job because ralphie is going to be busy with people and things. Keeping my fingers crossed, but it looks like you will have perfect weather for camp day.
Should be nice weather, but don't know if I would want to see photos. Maybe of bert jr. and his sister, or the ones left behind...

@Ralphie, do you do Turkeys on this day too? or wait with them?

Hahaha! Bert Jr. how cute. Interesting about the CX's, I suppose like other chicken breeds, it can depend on the bird. I had one EE start laying in October, the other one didn't lay until february, they were the same age. so maybe some CX's mature early? that would be neat! Make sure and let us know if you figure it out.

It is official, mother is molting, dropping feathers everywhere today. gonna give them some tuna tomorrow to help her along. they love tuna.

I finally finished the stain on the run, been working on it every night. I couldn't get photos as I finished up with my head lamp, so I'll try and get some tomorrow so I can add it to my link to My Coop. yey, done! (for now) DH is working on a new system to put up and take down the green house panels easier, he came up with a screw and nut system. when we get this in place, I won't have to bring the drill out to put on and take off the panels, just turn the nuts with my fingers.

Now I have to buy 2 or 3 green house panels every paycheck to cover the new hardware cloth.

Today after having that conversation with my son I decided to go shopping, yea fun... My son called me tonight to see how i was and asked what i did today,,, I told him I went shopping and bought a new pair of boots and a shirt and then came home and did dishes, He seemed satisfied with that answer, Little does he know I bought rubber boots and a flannel shirt to wear to camp day at Ralphies tomorrow... and I did the dishes because i made something to share so i was in the kitchen anyways,,,LOL...

I have my 1st flannel shirt,,, Ralphie i should get atleast a 1/2 redneck point for that...

I am planning on sending the Meth Boys (turkeys) to camp the Sunday before thanksgiving. That way they will be fresh and properly aged on Thanksgiving day.

The rest of my turkeys are "heritage' and they grow very slowly. I only have one Tom that is butchering size and he is a proven breeder, I like his size and his color, and the babies he makes, besides my wife named him, so he will be staying around. If I was to send him to camp, she would not be a happy woman!.

I will keep my males over winter and either sell or butcher them in the spring (Easter). I might keep some until next fall, but Toms are such a pain in the butt come breeding season. Even now they go round and round having snood pulling contest and waddling jerking games.

Maybe more. It appears I am losing redneck status with some here, so I no longer know what counts and what does not. I have learned never quote a university or government agency in a post and do not tell anyone about Peruvian Coffee.

my plans for going to Ralphies since i have a girl with mites....

i dropped off clothes at my friends today and she will wash them. i will care for my chickens in the morning then shower here then go to her house and take another shower and put on the clothes that she washes so i wont have anything on me at all from my chickens. im also going to borrow my sons truck that he is going to drop off over there just incase i happen to have something on my car seats. then i will leave Ralphies house and do the same thing in reverse.. LOL Just in case you never know..

Nice bio-security! Plus you get a new pair of rubber boots and flannel to wear at Ralphies! Sounds like a win win. were you able to squeeze anything out of her ear at all?

i sat with her in my lap and held warm rag on her for about 5 mins then tried to squeeze the outer part of the swelling felt soft and kinda squishy but it felt like inside of that is a hard round ball. nothing came out the 1st time, maybe i didn't squeeze hard enough,, but then i applied warm rag another 5 mins and squeezed out some clear liquid with a little pink, I then put some more neosporine on her and set her free... lol she went running as fast as she could towards the coop... she didnt seem to mind it so much I think she like sitting in my lap.. I will try again on Sunday.. hopefully the meds come soon I paid for speedy delivery...
