Minnesota!

OK!! I got caught up for the most part. Had to do some real scan type reading. 105 posts in less than 24 hrs!! WTH? I can't keep up with that!

I think Ralphy is right and we should have an MN BYC party. He has plenty of out buildings. We just need to heat one. Maybe a white elephant party? He lives far enough away that I would rent a cheap hotel or make the DW drive. She doesn't drink. Good for me!

OMG, that jacket is funny. I will be going up there right before Thanksgiving. But if you are going up sooner I would love to get it sooner, Coffee!

Kloppers, don't you think they should give you some kind of rebate on that saw?? Computer and now special tools? **** them. If I get a new saw I will look for these things and try not to get them. Always wanted a Stihl.

Its post 12893 here on the Minnesota! Thread ralphie. Go back and read it! Its a classic.

and I love the follow up to it when he checked back on her and she told him she was shopping (more "normal" behavior) and she actually was buying muckers and flannel for Freezer Camp Day. LOL. I even shared both posts with DH.
actually he is talking about another story I will post it when im done catching up with all this reading... I love this site.. love hearing what everyone is doing...it feels more personalized then most sites... Im glad to be a part of it...

I am finishing up my processing. I had only weighed the first bird we did Saturday. I decided to weigh the last 6 just to get an idea or weight.

I am pleasantly surprised, considering they were all girls.

The weights are:
Pounds/ounces
8/15
8/15
8/6
7/15
6/13
6/8

These are dressed weights with no giblets and very short trimmed necks. That works out to a cost of 91 cents a pound! We did ok on them. Free ranging pays!

Coffee n=and Blanch did you weigh yours? Just curious. I assume they are all about the same.

Maybe having all hes was ok, I know the roosters would have cost more to raise, they tend to be lazier, unlike in humans

OK short story,,, :) I'm in the coop this morning and I hear MOM are you out there,,yeah i hear my sons voice... so i grabbed my poop bucket and my pitch fork and leave the coop.. super happy to see him. he says mom i think we should talk I'm like ahh ohh whats wrong... so i empty my poop bucket in compost put the pitch fork away and head for the house to wash my hands. so i sit down at the kitchen table with my son and daughter in law, and my son ask`s Mom are you OK? Yes why would you ask that? Because you are outside in your pajamas with a poop bucket in one hand and a pitchfork in the other there is a **** chicken in your bathroom, you don't go any place anymore, you have dishes in the sink no makeup and you chopped your hair off and alls you talk about is chickens you are almost 50 years old and should be traveling or enjoying a easy life not working harder,,and why is there a chicken in your bathroom??? If you need some help maybe we should move back in with you.

Wow..

OK so the chicken in the bathroom has in infection and I'm going to take a warm rag and soften it up so i can squeeze the puss out of it and i have to clean the poop out of the coop since chickens DO poop, the pitchfork is so i can turn the straw over in the run and fluff the pine shavings, I get out of the house i just went to fleet farm yesterday, I chopped my hair because I'm having hot flashes and I'm as you said I'm almost 50 i don't need hair down to my *ss I'm not out to get a boyfriend why should i wear makeup when its just me and if i don't want to do dishes today i don't have to.. If i want to raise chickens instead of traveling that's what is making me happy right now..

I'm FINE its OK
Figured I would pull this up since I couldn't find the post of the week area.

I cooked my first rainbow (most likely a pullet) last night and was surprised to see the difference in breast and quarter size from our CXs. I should have fed them out a little bit longer based on what I see in Conrad and his rainbow harem.

It was fantastically delicious though. Makes me excited to see a rainbow over dark Cornish next year. And over a CX too. Betty white is very healthy looking and is actually one of the top girls in the flock now. She even stands up to buck when he is feeling frisky and she isn't into it haha

This is the highlight of my day! Okay, week. Fine, month.

@Minniechickmama Where are you headed for your breeds of chickens? Are you still going for egg color? Or Easy Minnesota Cold hardy Breeds? I know you're cutting back and thinking Wyandottes back...but what do you think of dominiques? I guess as a future customer I kinda want to go with Egg color but I also like the eye candy I get with the Wyandottes and those stripes. IDK...fickle customer...can't make up my mind.

So I am outside putting down mulch around the coop and run and looking at all the space in there now that I have only four hens. Two are Gold Stars (both laying and two are RIR (20 weeks old.) Thinking about this and then I come in to jump on here and read alittle of what is going on before I start pushing paper on my desk. NOW you have got me thinking! Should I just get one rooster and if so, which one (it has to be handsome) should I get? Or should I get some pullets to add to what I have currently (really want BA again) or should I just wait til spring and get chicks to begin with the babes again? I would like to have eight hens and one rooster and I figure the roosters should be meat birds because I only want one and know I would get more if I let the hens lay and, and, and, and . . . . . Then I thought - I will go ask all my 'chickie' friends - they will help me! Will you guys help me? Tell me what you think so I can put this to rest! Please . . . . .
