Minnesota!

Thanks Bogtown

You are right about how things are handled these days. No accountability for unacceptable behaviors. I would also stand up and demand respect from the school and the kid and his folks. you know it!

My kids go to a local dance studio. Just yesterday I watched behaviors from 5 year olds I cannot believe. The dad walks in with his daughter and tells her to change from her outside shoes to her dance shoes. She says defiantly "NO". What does dad do? He bends over and changes her shoes for her. WHAT?! Not just this family but the majority and I mean it let their kids act in a disrespectful and rude way and the parents take it!! EXCUSE ME!!?? If I tell my child to do something they do it and they do not back sass. What happened? I would never and I mean never talk to my parents or act in a rude way to anyone. I expect the same from my kids. These other children are loud and running around and talk nasty and all the adults do nothing literally.
The studio we go to is in a building with other businesses. I can't believe how loud and reckless and disrespectful the kids are. Have some decency for the other businesses. Do whatever at home but please show some respect to others!! Parents keep your kids reigned in or leave them at home!!!

OK off my box!

yeah, scabs, cheesy pus, meds,....you left out chicken **** on your clothes....that explains why we are all chicken nuts. I was loading the car this morning to get my mom home and noticed, believe it or not, chicken **** on the drivers seat. Dang. I try to be careful.

I've wanted to do pigs but have been scared off by stories of how intelligent they are. Hows it going ? would you do it again?

Yeah even with 'chore clothes and boots' I find all kinds of goodies in places they don't belong.

Pigs are smart. But they are very affectionate & playful too. In the pasture I have a roll of sheep fencing and string of electric at snout height. They respect the fencing. I would change only one thing. They love to toss the feeders with feed in them and eat it off the ground. I need to set up a feed station they can't tip over. Same with the water. Otherwise, yes, I will do it again and again. Oh, I don't let the kids in the pig pen. Only DH and myself. But I grew up having feeder pigs and I did the chores. About 11 I was up until I left home at 17 I did the chores on my own. So I am comfortable with pigs. You could set up a way to feed and water them with out having to go into the pen if you didn't trust them.

now I'm confused..Yes again..LOL... I have the Ivomec to kill mites.. So how often do i put that on them? i was reading around BYC and people use that for a wormer... If i use Ivomec and it kills worms then why would I use the Valbazen? wouldn't it be overdosing the chickens? or treating them for the same thing twice?/ Thanks .....
I have been checking around and Ivomec is just for external parasites. Does it actually say it is for worms? One should be external, the other internal. Next time, use the Safeguard, it is much cheaper and probably easier since it is a paste and can be put on something like a piece of toast and you can feed it to them.

As much IVOMEC as I have on me I shouldn't have worms, lice, or flies on me for a very long time... I need to invest in some rubber gloves... Besides scabs, cheesy pus and medications chicken owning is a lot of fun.. Lol. At this rate I will have to sell my chicken eggs $50 a dozen...
Yes, rubber gloves are a must, you don't want that stuff getting into your system.

Some pictures Ralphie might enjoy. All the ones I am posting today are from chores this morning.
The one not in display is the turkey that was attacked earlier this summer by a fox. He has healed nicely. He has been given a pass on camp. He will live here as long as possible. Runty is his name.

And here are pictures of some of my Langshans. All my chickens come from Murray Mcmurray.

Rooster

Roo and hen, Then hen below. Her bright red comb and wattles with her shiny black is SO pretty!

GORGEOUS TURKEYS!!!! They appear to be BB Bronze. I think they are too big to be the wild type if they are this year's hatch?
Rhett thanks for the pictures, I loved them all. I really liked the pigs. I would like to get a couple, however, the war department refuses to allow me to get any. I am thinking if I go to an auction and happen to bid on a couple by accident, there is not much she can say. Is there?

One of the things you learn in consoler training is honesty is overrated in a marriage. Deception is your friend....

The one turkey may not display because the other one does not allow it. Sidekick only gets to display when JJ allows it, if there is a girl to impress it is not allowed.

Here is a video of my turkeys being released. They did not go where they normally do so the video is not that cool, but 32 seconds in the Meth Boys decide it is time for them to fly. It is short lived but funny.

Exactly what I was going to say, the dominant males usually don't let the others mess with who gets to strut or breed, just like roosters.

Here is an updated photo of the duckling that my Rouen hatched out in August. What is that POUF on her head? It has been there the whole time and I assumed when the down fell out it would too and then fill in with feathers. Nope. It is a fluffy pouf. Some genetic defect? The only breeds it could be is Rouen or Kahki. I have one male and one female of each so she could have hatched out any combo of those two. I figure @Minniechickmama will know. :)

If you have a crested that means two of your ducks are carriers. It is a lethal gene, so breeding it in, not a great idea as most ducklings will die in the shell. Same goes with the short leg gene in Japanese chickens.

Sounds like there is a crest gene in khakis. You could breed this duck with a non created khaki and get more of them. But breeding crest to crest sounds like bad news

Ralphie-if you happen to bring home the tiniest cutest piglet how could she resist? She would melt. And you get your feeder pig in the end. Just don't let her get too attached or you will find yourself with a pig for the next 15 years and no pork on the table!

Great pictures of barnyards and critters on here since I've been on last. Klop Klop I love your barnyard photos. You get some great ones. Rhetts yours too. Minnesota Nice...I keep saying to myself that 's an awesome coop whenever I see you post photos of it.

Minnie. I have nothing but positive feelings about your abdomen issue and it turning out just fine. You're in my thoughts. And you doctor at a pretty great place too. So sorry that the rear-ending just sorta put salt in a wound though for s you. When it rains it pours sometimes.

Nice looking Creamer there, Ralphie. He's a good looking boy. LaLa I'm glad you have him. Do you have any hens left after your ordeal with sickness? Cute stories about your Momma. I can envision it all your few words on her and Ralphie's "encounter."

@Coffee 1st you are right the pour-on is a wormer as well. I'm not sure how great it is for an all around broad spectrum. But I think your birds are young enough where the load is most likely not that bad and your immediate problem is the mites with that birds ears. So do the Pour on for now. and if you want to revisit the Valbazen this winter when nobody is laying then you can give that broad spectrum Valbazen. Great idea Cluckies on sharing the the cost of the Valbazen. I might get some from coffee too if she wants to sell off a portion to help with her cost. mine expired this year. I used Safegaurd in the circulation this year anyways. But I may roll around to VAlbazen next year again or year after.

Well I had a "first" as a parent. My son took a punch to the face on the school bus. By some rag-tag kid from a family of kids with "anger issues" to put it P. C. Personally I call this f'd up parenting. But I know what the school will call it and am I ever ready for the phone call from the school. Where the school and the family will fail in consequences to actions I will demand. If the other family members hadn't laid down the ground work for this incident I'd chalk it up to "boys will be boys."

But unfortunately, their oldest son has called my daughter derogatory foul female names. He then saw my son walking on our road this summer and sped up and started doing reckless S's in the road spitting gravel at my son. Now this on the bus. My kid is a 70 lb 8th grader, waiting for a growth spurt here... he's a good kid, gritty when he needs to be but he's small and kids LOVE to pick on him. He didn't see it coming and he restrained himself.

My husband gets so upset watching the news about inner city upset and the mom that goes down to the bar and leaves a 6, 4 and 2 year old to burn up in a house. He asks me why I don't get upset. Well there's not much I can do about that. BUT I can certainly do something about this. God I'm p*$$ed.

Thanks for letting me vent. My plan is to listen to the principle when he call's on Monday. listen to the P.C. B.S. probably on how hard this kid has it...yah-dah yah-dah. Then I'm going to ask for a phone call from the parents with an apology to me and an apology for my son. Community service in the school for a week with a janitor or something. If I don't get it then we go to court and the 12 year old gets a black mark on his name for the rest of his days. Consequences There are no consequences to actions any more. people are not held responsible for their own actions and society is blamed. I'm wanting to change that in this incidence. I don't want my kids feeding this kid when they're all older. Advice taking right now........ What would you do?
You have every right to be angry and I know what you are going through. My son has had more than his share of problems at school. For some you can feel for the kid doing the messed up stuff, but for others, the whole family is to blame for the violence that they encourage. Don't back down. Have a lawyer ready. Don't let the school board or the other school administrators try to turn it on you.
I think you have a list that is well within your right to demand from this situation.
My son was molested by a classmate on the bus. They are not a white trash family by any stretch, but the son who did this has some odd things going on in his head. I went right to their house when son got home. The mother said, "Well, my son has been bullied at school too." W T F??? Does that make it okay that he molested my son??? This world is crazy, and in all honesty, there are days I rethink bringing more kids into the world to deal with the way it is all headed.
I am very sorry about your son, BC. I hope he can get passed this and not have it hurt him for the long run. You are a good momma bear!!

Thank you Ralphie, LaLa and Rhett's. Yeah the kids will graduate with about 60 in their class. It's a small town. There's a new principle there though and hopefully he's forgot the locker incident :D but any ways he's ex military and I think he might be up for my suggestions. We'll see. We have our kids open enrolled to a school neighboring our current district but I think you're right Ralphie about seeking a board members help if need be.
I agree about squeaky parents and them actually having the problem kids hahaha-- I actually see this in my own job. My husband and I have jobs in town that reflect upon ourselves if we speak politics etc so we don't often speak up and let things slide and smile. Just to protect our businesses and jobs. But momma bear here draws the line now.
Rhett's I call that behavior lazy parenting or like Ralphie says the path of least resistance. You don't have to berate your child in front of others. But you can be firm in a bathroom or out back with the yank of an elbow and a stern voice saying "you WILL change your shoes NOW." It's not easy ever to confront your kids and do this tough stuff but people don't realuze is that in adulthood there won't be any body to "change those shoes"-- they're not doing them any favors.

The turkeys are June of 2014 hatch. They are very good fliers. They roost on top of an old house here on the property. I had a female this spring. They were mating her and she was laying eggs. I lost her though and the eggs that made it to the bator didn't hatch with the humidity issues we had.

So if I plan on hatching eggs next spring I will get more crested even if I don't incubate the crested girls eggs? I really don't want crested. Do you think it is the Khakis? Out of 13 or 14 hatch-lings (incubator and the lone natural hatch) only one was crested with any of the rouen khaki combo.

Lala- I am feeling pretty good considering. I had some therapy done at the chiro office that helped tremendously. My mid and low back are a bit stiff today, but that could be the age thing ;)
I am not too keen on all the paperwork and insurance crap to deal with. had to disconnect the battery because the back gate being smashed, makes the interior lights stay on all the time.
It is windy so it is putting a wrench in things. I have two doctor appointments today, so I better get off here and get chores out of the way and whatever else I can find time to do. Plus cooking down turkey stock to can.

THANK YOU EVERYONE for your thoughts and concerns! I really appreciate it! I can usually take things and let them roll and keep up with the just worrying more about the big stuff, but I must admit, this has me pretty bummed. I have a great husband who is there for me and my kids, though I may complain a little, are great too.

I must run, but you all have a great day and enjoy what sun we are getting while it is here!

It would take two birds to make the crested, and breeding two cresteds together is just asking for a huge loss. Personally, I would avoid it. Then again, you might try splitting them up to hatch some from each female and see where it is coming from. Ducks aren't like chickens when it comes to carrying fertility. Ducks have to mate often. Chickens will carry fertile yolks for 3-4 weeks but not ducks, it is like a couple of days, I believe.
