Minnesota!

If you need anything and I can help just ask... im close enough to help...

As am I. Ask and I shall try to help. Maybe your Alpacas need petting or something when I get back from Togo. I may delay going until Saturday now, this colder weather has impresses upon me the need to get ready for winter.

Aussiegal good luck to both of you on the surgery and the outcome! You shall be in my thoughts and prayers.

Rhetts - I have a friend who is an expert on the subject of ducks and the crested gene. here is what she told me, so I was a little off on what I said earlier:

"The crested gene can show up in basically any domestic duck breed besides Muscovies. They are usually most common in pekins and runners though. The gene can technically show up with only one parent carrying the gene but if one has it then most likely other ducks from the line are carriers as well. If the offspring ends up with two doses of the genes it will most likely end up dying. "

My curiosity had me following up too. It sounds like the same gene that causes cresting causes skull deformities, which what causes the fatality when they get double crested genes

I took some eggs down to the cities as a host gift. And did a little write up on the hens with pictures on a post card describing personalities, breed etc. just a personal touch about the beings in my care that provided those eggs. They LOVEd it. To see the girls that laid the eggs. I know you have many more birds than I but you could take some cute stories about favorite hens or Conrad. People gobble up that stuff. Makes them feel good about buying those eggs too.

That is a great idea!

Since it's the middle of the night and I'm awake I thought a Minnesota BYC ice breaker is in order. Putting a person behind the avatar?
Below are ten questions. Responses are optional, laughing at ourselves and each other mandatory.
(And Aussie needs something to make her smile!)

1. If I could binge on Netflix for an entire day I'd watch this show:
2. One place in the world from which I want to send a postcard:
3. You could chase me to Russia with this food:
4. The daily chore which I dread:
5. Fastest I've ever driven a motorized vehicle:
6. Tried my first alcoholic beverage at this age and thought adults were nuts to drink it:
7. First person I ever had a crush on, can be real or celebrity:
8. Favorite chicken breed:
9. Do I have enough chickens?
10. One question we want to ask others here but are afraid of being laughed at:

Cleaning up after my mother in the kitchen.
5. Fastest I've ever driven a motorized vehicle: 180 mph
6. Tried my first alcoholic beverage at this age and thought adults were nuts to drink it:
Apple Schnapps.. Still cringe *bleeech*
7. First person I ever had a crush on, can be real or celebrity: Eric Estrada
8. Favorite chicken breed: It's a toss up - BuffOrps or Jerseys?
9. Do I have enough chickens? No.
10. One question we want to ask others here but are afraid of being laughed at:

I don't know if some of you are dudes or gals?

IKEA has mini silicone muffin things that are the perfect size to freeze an individual egg. I bought 12 to start freezing eggs. We are at five eggs per day.
that sounds like a great idea! Could freeze eggs and then dump them in a ziplock!
My goal is to have enough frozen eggs to take me through two months. I usually still get a couple eggs a day, but....can't count on it. And the new girls that are coming in a few weeks will likely lay through their first winter.

But, I have a family that asks me for eggs all the time. I am taking 6 doz tonight to an after work gathering with my siblings.

Ralphie, I wish I knew you were low on eggs, I would have happily brought you some! I'm still bummed to have missed your call about coffee time in Zimmerman.
