Minnesota!

hey, do you all count your chickens when they roost?

This is getting crazy. That rooster isn't doing anything to anyone, but every chicken is all discombobulated. I have a 6 year old hen who has always, and I mean always, roosted in one spot for 6 years. Not tonight, and at least 2/3rds of the flock were in different places. It took me so long to count, and I came up short, and had to go do a search. Came back in to recheck, and found two different hens practically roosting on top of other hens, which is why I missed them.

glad everyone had a good weekend, except....minniechickiemama at the car wash, and coffee trying to post....

I used to count every night. I haven't since August. But I have 40 some. It gets hard to count that many. And when I would miscount I would start to panic. Sometimes it took 3 people multiple times to come up with the right number.
Why do you think the hens were all moved around? Did they have a stressful day or something unexpected happen?

The easiest way to count your chickens in do it by breed and or sex. If you have to, go by color. Breaking it into subsets makes it easier to keep track of who was counted and who was not. I just did inventory this week myself.

I have done that too. Works but my memory (or maybe my math) is bad and I end up mixed up anyway. :)

BTW Minnie- I was going to say what crap luck you have been having! Do you think that person stole your wash intentionally or by mistake?

@Coffee 1st Great job going for the yuckies!! I am sure you hen feels so much better!! Hope that ear of hers starts to heal up now. Glad Aussie helped you gain the confidence to do it!
