Minnesota!

Oh well then I feel extra proud if my cookie tin heater. I've used it for three winters and the only real issue I ran into last year was finding the 40 watt bulb. It's getting harder and harder to find the bulbs that aren't the economical energy saver types.
I made one with a metal feed pan too; it works great. Now I have a larger waterer I need to make a bigger one, maybe an oil pan next.

Okay, so our local car wash at KT has a curse against me!
I went there today to wash the truck good before I put the topper back on and it is too cold to keep it off.
I fill my gas tank at the pump, and pay for a wash. Go around to back and get in line. I am second after a white F150. That truck pulls in and get his wash. Then, instead of pulling head to the blowers, puts it in reverse, trips the start to the wash and sits through MY wash!! I am just laughing, cuz how can something happen twice in one week in the same car wash like this? At least he didn't floor it and ram the front of my truck in. Still.... idiot.
I called inside and they gave me an upgrade to the Elite wash and I got in. The dope in front of me, gets out, looks at me, shrugs his shoulders then drives off.
I think I will stay away from that one for a while.

I did get an estimate and it is coming close to totaling, but I think I may be able to get it fixed instead.

Back to work. Pumpkins roasting, more waiting. Out to play in the wind again.

At that point I'd let my truck be dirty. Yum. I have to find some good pumpkins for roasting. I freeze it for pies.
Hi @sourland I have seen you around BYC. Glad to have you here!!

@Minniechickmama WOW! way to go on all your turkey stock!! And sounds like you have lots of potatoes!! Awesome!

I have begun the canning of the apple butter I had started yesterday. 2 of the 3 crocks were ready to can so far I have 13 pints. Very excited to see how it turns out.

I am taking full advantage of the weather today. Drying the clothes on the line for as long as weather permits!!!!

Well, I will be in and out today. Have a great autumn day all!!
You guys are way more ambitious then I am. Like the pumpkin I freeze apple butter, in fact, if I can't freeze or dry it, it doesn't get preserved. I have never learned to can. My mother would tell me horror stories of canning that have scared me away. Maybe I need to get over that.

Well Ralphie picked the right weekend to go to Togo. As some of you natives know it has been a fantastic couple of days in the Nortland. We will soon be dodging snowflakes, so these days are at a premium to be enjoyed.
Hope all have coops and chicken yards prepared for old man winter. There are sure to be some nice days ahead, but it is nice to be ready so one can enjoy other activities of autumn.
I hope that Ralphie does not do anything crazy in the woods, like run off with a female Sasquatch. Judy would be forced to care for all that fowl alone.
I think we would see a large poultry sale.

Had to upload pics the long way around,, sent to my email then downloaded into a file then uploaded to BYC,,, almost miss my old phone...

Me and DIL went to Aussie`s today,,again,,LOl im going to end up moving in there I just love it,, it is very peaceful and beautiful... So be prepared Aussie when i show up with my bags i wont be leaving...

Let's see, If we could move my DD & SIL out of the basement....
Now for the Gross Pics... OK Aussie gave me the push i needed today to do this she told me I HAVE TO...,,, The 1st time I did it i didn't do it very well but today I DID it ,,did it well and was proud of myself... I was worried i was going to hurt my girl the 1st time but this time i knew it was best for her..BUT she didn't seem to mind at all she even seemed like she was OK with me doing it.. and she sure seemed happier after it was done...
1st i put a warm rag on her ear to soften it,,the i took tweezers and pulled scab off and with it came hard yellow gunk..then i put ear wash in it. then took qtips to it.. then cleaned it again. then packed it with neosporin.. I'm sure she felt better.. put her back outside and she went running to her friends...

believe it or not it looks way better then it did a week ago...
What are friends for but to encourage you to do the grosses thing possible! She will be happier. Hopefully the ear will start coming together without scabing over.

I've had these a few times, but never found anything wrong with the hens, just happens sometimes I guess

Oh, no... that is terrible! I would stay away from there as well, yikes! People are nuts!

I close the door at night when they are on the roosts so the air doesn't come up and over them. During the day they are in the run, so it doesn't matter. Even at 20 below last year they were out in the run. but If it ever seemed to cold, I would keep them in and close the door.

Wow, what a great problem to have!!! I only have 5 so...

call me envious!

Hi Barinhansch!
welcome-byc.gif

You can order them from alot of places, it depends on what you want to get. Also MInniechickmama, right here on our thread sells chickens, she is near you if you want her breeds. Also the guy at anoka ramsey farm and garden sells chicks/chickens almost all year long. I think he doesn't get new chicks in novemeber and december, you'd have to call to see what he has. last time I was in there were several breeds there.

Nice photos! Aussies place looks awsome! I'm surprised your DIL would come out to a crazy internet persons place, lol

Her DIL wants to come over more too now. Crazy internet chicken people. I think Coffee will bring her over to the dark side.

actually it was for her benefit she bought a auto part to get her truck fixed.. when i used her truck and went to Aussies to get some bales for the run me and Aussie packed the bed of truck so full we slammed it shut to shove it all in the back and we ended up breaking the handle off. And Aussie son is going to fix it... My son thinks its funny he says he understands how 2 Moms can mess something up and understands how Aussies son must feel..LOl... dang kids...
My DS said it would be better if you could wait until next week once he's done with the job from #*%^. I hadn't noticed that he had the mowers so he had mowed after the soccer game. I did get the trim painted. When DS & DIL came they had the kids with so I had to take time to jump on the trampoline with them. Then DD & SIL came home with the boys which required more jumping on the tramp, running around & throwing scratch for the chicken. The important things in life!

I was trying to decide what to do with the ones I have. Great idea! Sounds delish!
The ones I grew, and planted pretty late btw, are called Winter Luxury. They are suppose to be the best cooking squash, so I will find out soon when I start making soup and muffins and pies and cheesecake.
I got 2 acorn squash and one buttercup, plus these funky little striped ones I don't know the name of. I bought some plants on the cheap from the greenhouse nearby and some stuff didn't have labels. Oh, and I got two small white pumpkins, two Baby Boos and a Jack Be Little.
Our kale is still going gang busters, and I don't think that stuff freezes until it hits zero LOL
Tomorrow I have doctors appointments all day between myself and DD, so I don't think I will accomplish much outside other than chores. But we have to get the strawberries mulched with straw, and the garlic bed DH just made and raked should be ready to plant. I got about 100 daffodil, Hyacinth and Tulip bulbs to get in the ground too. Of course, all the rest of the garden needs to be cleaned out, and the rest of the potatoes need digging. It should be a good week. Let's hope. I won't be washing any cars in town, I don't think.

Hey Ralphie, did you great Big Foot by saying, "Goony Goo Goo!"?

You have been too quiet this weekend. You need to go home and get some Mike's and catch us up. We have new people for you to bring over to the dark side of the fowl world!

I believe it's ear mites from what I've found out some chicken just seems to be allergic to them. Then she was scratching her ears then they got infected. I started them all on antibiotics and then ordered Ivomec which kills lice and mites then gave them all a dose. It only took 2 days for the swelling to start going down on her ears, but I did know the scab had to come off. I just needed a push to do it. I could tell that the antibiotics were working because the yellow glob was hardening. Compared to the 1st time I tried to do it. The 1st time I tried to give it a squeeze and pus came out, I didn't want to hurt her and it was really gross so I was hoping it would just heal on its own without me having to do anything but medicate.. it might have eventually but I'm sure it would have taken along time and I'm sure it couldn't have been comfortable till then. Don't get me wrong it was still gross but I'm glad I did it. And I would never have known what to do if it wasn't for fantastic and experienced people that have been through the same thing like Minniechicmama

The easiest way to count your chickens in do it by breed and or sex. If you have to, go by color. Breaking it into subsets makes it easier to keep track of who was counted and who was not. I just did inventory this week myself.

When I get desperate, I do count by breed or color.

I have two pie pumpkins left - when my family was up a couple of weeks ago making jalopeno apple jelly, they harvested pumpkins and green beans and tomatoes and raspberries. But I told them hands off on the pie pumpkins because I only had a few. Never made pumpkin butter, but love pumpkin muffins.

I have to hassle with hay today. My partner bought some hay but its awful - lots of weed sticks in it and prickles. So I bought some nice grass hay, which she can use on the dog kennels for bedding, and I'll switch out the weedy stick hay and use that for wind breaks under the coop and to make different levels in the coop in case there are many days when the chickens are stuck inside. We are supposed to have a mild wnter though.....

Did you pull that yellow glob right out of the ear with a tweezer? It seems so large. Can you tell I work in the medical field? Lol, this stuff doesn't phase me.

For those stuck at work on what is supposed to be a beautiful day, I hope you can steal some time outside or get out early!

Total count on last nights butter canning 30 pints and we went to bed somewhere between 3 and 4.
